Pumping and Dumping after a few drinks, what do I do??? Help!!

    Hi girls,

I had a few drinks last night for New Years, ok, maybe more than a few champers and there were some jelly shots in there as well! Haven't done that in about 10years!

Anyway, I've got some EBM and some formula ready to go for this morning for ds2 but had a question:

How long do I have to 'pump and dump' for? Is is just the one feed? Do I do both sides? He only feeds one side a time. My normal routine would be to feed him on the right at around 8am, then the left at around 11:30am, then back to the right 3-4hrs later etc...

Should I do a pump and dump for each side? Does the alcohol 'go out' of your milk or will my boobs just be full of champagne???

Sorry for my total ignorance, I couldn't bf ds1 and this is the first time I've had a few drinks with ds2 and had to do this!

    Thanks for your help!!!

The alcohol in your bm will reduce as your blood alcohol does. So depending on how much you had and how quickly your liver works it will depend. I had a friend blow 0.1 at 2pm after a MASSIVE night but I blew 0.0.
I'd dump the 8am and see how you're feeling at 11.30. Or if you have enough ebm just dump both to be safe. How's the head???

No pumping and dumping!! Save that beautiful milk!

Breastmilk has the same alcohol content as your blood - so whatever your BAC is, your breastmilk will be also.
Meaning, it will clean itself as your blood does, there is no need to waste any of it.

Express a little off to feel comfy if needed, but him missing a feed this morning is not going to hurt anyone, just use your EBM, drink some tea and lots of water yourself and you will be fine.

Glad you had a fun NYE

Thanks girls, I'll go with dumping the morning feed and take it from there.

Junglemum - feels like you're beating your jungle drums in my head at the moment!

It has been a long time since I've drunk like that! It was an awesome night with close friends and kids running around having a ball! My two made it until 11:15pm, not a bad effort for 5yrs and 8mts!!!

Now all I need is for the little guy to wake so I can get the pump from his room, give him a bottle then crawl back into bed!!!

Hope you girls had a good night too!

You don't need to pump and dump the milk. Express for comfort but as the alcohol leaves your blood ir also leaves your milk. The ABA has a guide here http://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfin...lchohol_BF.pdf
