Bf and solids. How can I tell if he is getting enough?

Bit of a silly question but what is a good indicator that ds2 is getting enough bm when he is having solids? I ff ds1 so that was easy to tell how much he was having but with bf its obviously quite different! Ds2 loves his solids and will eat and eat if I let him. On the breast he is very quick which I know is normal at his age but I never feel like he has had a good feed iykwim. I'm worried that he is having too much food and not enough bm. Help reassure me!

It's best to always offer the breast before solids at this age, even up until they are 12mths of age. BM is the main food until 12mths of age (as you probably know ).

My DD has never been a huge eater so I never had to worry, she always loved her boobie milk I think as long as you keep offering it to him throughout the day then he should be getting plenty.

Hopefully someone else can give you some advice that may help.

If you let your baby lead then it generally works out ok. Do you spoon feed or does your DS feed himself? Letting him do it would probably ensure he gets the right balance.
It is possible to go too much solids, too soon, which will displace milk without necessarily giving nuturitional benefit (as they don't get as much from it as milk, generally). It's all 'on average' and 'in general' though, as of course they're all different. If you feel maybe he's nto getting enough milk, maybe try to wind back the solids a little and see how you go?
