    Storing EBM

    Rookie question

I've expressed a small bottle of milk and stored in fridge overnight, upon looking at it now it seems to have separated - there are yellowish lumpy bits in watery milk. Is that normal? Will it mix back together when I warm it?

I went to ABA website about expressing/storing and the table says freshly expressed milk can be stored in the fridge for 3-5 days, but then the bottom of the chart it shows that if the baby has started to BF to discard EBM. What the?

Whereabouts in the fridge did you put it? It shouldn't be stored in the door part but in the main fridge part. I am fairly certain that EBM will separate, DD did from memory.

I'd give the ABA a call to be honest. It doesn't make sense does it?

I put it at the back then couldn't find it ROFL.

I thought it would separate, being unpasteurized and all.

    Gah to confusing, conflicting information.

I think what you are reading is referring to the fact you cannot re-store a bottle of milk after it has been partially drunk by baby due to bacteria and such that can collect from the babies saliva.

EBM does separate and will recombine with very gentle swirling (you want to disturb the nutrients as little as possible).

Yes ebm separates quite drastically. This is perfectly normal. Just give it a swish and a shake to mix it back up before you heat it.
