jelly, congrats on your new baby
I've had a little look at your other threads. Mate, do not go cold turkey - you'll be in such pain if your milk is in. Have you been able to express at all? Even if you just hand express in the shower (sometimes the warm water helps getting things going). It's really important to remove any lumps so you don't risk mastitis.
It sounds like you've had a rough start and are feeling quite alone right now Give the ABA a call - the counsellors are lovely and can offer you lots of support and advice with getting through this. 1800-686-2-686
I know you've made a decision right now, and maybe you're totally happy with that and it's ok, but just remember that it's really early days still and you can change your mind.
It's really normal to struggle early on with everything and sometimes just the feeding can seem overwhelming - especially if you're alone (and christmas time makes it hard to get help, I know!). I hope you have family and friends you can call on to support and care for you.
Yeah im dissapointed but it is affecting my health so last night I couldn't get out of bed to feed baby, my husband and nurse suggested it be best I feed him formula, I am finding it easier to bond with him now and nit as stressed and have more time to rest, I guess I'll just be happy wort him at least getting my colostrum early on
You can give bub formula and continue to breastfeed if you want time to work out which way you want to go. Don't feel pressured to make a decision that you don't want to make.
I don't know all your circumstances, but i was quite sick after the birth of my bub, and needed my DH to get bub, change her nappy and bring her to me for night feeds until i was strong enough to do it myself. Can your partner or Mum help out with night feeds (either bottle feed bub or bring him to you) to help you get your strength back?
He isn't feeding from me atm hadn't learnt to latch but I don't want to be going back and forward with this decision and while I'm on antibiotics now I figure it makes my chances of getting mastitis while I'm weaning off
We often feel overwhelmed by our early mothering experience - and sometimes that leads us to make regretful decisions. And sometimes we get a few days or weeks down the track and things have settled down and we just wish we'd had the support to make different decisions, you know? Your baby is, what, 5 days old? You have time to decide still, you don't have to make a solid decision right now.
Babies take time to learn to feed also. Your LC's advice to just use a bottle didn't sound very helpful, either, so I feel maybe you haven't really had good support & help so far.
Please don't take this as criticism of your decisions - I don't mean it that way at all. But other mothers in your position have felt rushed into decisions and then regretted later on. I just want you to know that it's ok and it doesn't have to be all over if you don't want it to be (even if you feel next week that you'd like to give it another go, you can).
And again - I hope you have lots of good care & support at home right now. You really sound like you need it
