What brand of breastpump do you use?

I had actually posted here: Breast Pumps & Carpal Tunnel - manual/electric ???

and then was given the link to this thread. So looks like I should get an electric one, preferably a double one. I see 1-3 ok's on medela, nurture3 & pigeon. Hmm, maybe Medela is on the cards so far then... :-)

I have now been expressing 7 times a day for almost 61/2 months. My son can't breastfeed (tongue tie and prematurity/poor coordination are apparently the reasons).

I have two pumps both made by Medela. One manual pump (Medela Harmony) and one electric (Medela Pump-In-Style Advance) . I mostly use the electric pump and have found it to be fantastic. I can double pump so it's all over and done with in 10 mins. I mainly use the more compact manual one when I'm out places where I don't want to lug the electric one - as it fits neatly inside my handbag (sterilised and inside a ziplock bag of course).

The manual pump fitting can also be attached to the electric pump which is a bonus. Can thoroughly recommend both pumps.

what is price comparsion for Medala - comapred to Avent ?
is Medala a double pump or do you mean you use manual and electric at same time ?

just wondering as with twins on way which is best ? and in double pump

I double pump with the electric pump. It's much more efficient this way.

Given how heavily I need to rely on pumping (as my son can't BF at all), I need a high quality pump.

I actually hired a hospital grade pump (called "Medela Symphony") for the first couple of months before buying the "Medela Pump in Style" one. The Medela Symphony cost $100 a month to hire from the ABA (but I have heard you may be able to get it more cheaply elsewhere). The "Pump In Style" is pretty expensive to buy (about $440 after discount from the ABA). It is supposedly one of the highest quality pumps you can buy and recommended for heavy/frequent users. In fact the "Pump in Style" is very similar to the "Symphony" in that it's got two phases one fast phase to encourage the let down reflex and then a slower phase for once the milk is flowing.

The Pump In Style is more compact than the Symphony - which has made it easier to cart with me when I'm out and about. It has a battery pack or can be plugged into the power socket. It's sold as part of a backpack set and includes all the expressing attachments, bottles and a fridge cooler bag plus brick. Although it's expensive I thought it was pretty good value for my needs. Probably not something I would have bought if I was only going to be using a pump occasionally.

i have the Avent one too - it's fantastic - easy to use, comfortable and attaches to all the other avent bottles. Highly recommend it

I just dragged it out of the box and checked it over for the next baby! I found it was excellent.

I used the medala electric one that the hospitala supplied when my first DS was born at 28 weeks. It was excellent, but after comming home, I used a cannon hand pump, and found it really tiring.
My second DS was born with a tongue tie, to the upper tip of his tongue, he could not even get his tongue to cover his gums preperly, but exclusively breastfed him for 16 months by using tommy tippie breastsheilds for the whole time. (the tommy tippie ones are super thin shields, without that thickening over the nipple area, so you get the stimulation needed. He could only attach using these, as he needed to be able to "slide" my nipple back using it, wheras he could not do this without them with his tongue tie. (he was 3 when they surgically repaired it finally)
With my third DS, I had all hell trouble feeding him, and he has shocking reflux, but bought the avent isis hand pump, and found it to be brilliant. It is so gently, andyou hardly have to do any work, so no more tiring our your hands from pumping. My best friend borrowed it for her little boy, and is returning it for this one, and is buying another for herself.

I used the Avent, which was great. My baby was in NICU for about 4 weeks and it was so handy expressing during the night. Spare parts can be bought from their website (if you wear them out like I did!!!)

Also good for letting dads have a go of feeding the baby.

I ended up buying the Ameda Purely yours from ABA - with discount about $280 and it works a treat for heavy duty use - 3-6 times a day.You can upmarket it with a cooler bag too.
It is a double pump or can use singlely too, electric adapter or can be used with batteries (I don't)
Replacement Parts can be purchased. I think it is a great pump.

I also have the Ameda Purely Yours! I exclusively pupmped...sometimes 8 times a day, and it was a Godsend! I got it new on ebay. The total cost including shipping was around $100 US dollars! Worth every penny!

I too am a fan of the Avent Isis. I have used it with both my boys and plan to use it this time round as well. I have also lent it to a friend. The parts are still in good working order but you can definately buy replacement parts if need be (sister in law had to replace part for hers, and got an improved version so was definately worth replacing). Really easy to express especially when 'let down' and loved how it attaches to all the bottles or has a freezer bag store option which I used often.
Enough rambling - love it love it love it.
