Question When did your colostrum come in? During pregnancy? Or at birth?

A few girls in my belly buddies thread are already lactating / leaking colostrum. Some of these are 2nd time pregnancies.

Just wondering when most people started "leaking"?

Should I be leaking now? I am only 23 weeks so to me, it's still very early days! It's my first pregnancy too. Does that make a difference? I've sometimes pinched my nipple trying to see if anything comes out and it only hurts so I have stopped doing this!! They're so tender

I remember I asked Mum when her's came in and she said it only happened at the birth of her 3 girls so I'm guessing mine will come in then.....

If you have early colostrum, is it an indication of how much milk you will be making later? Barb? I'm thinking the answer is no.

    TIA

Everybody is different. Mine appeared around 5 - 6 months pg with my girls. Not too sure with DS.
I never actually leaked. I had to squeeze to see it.

I can't get anything out at the moment, I wasn't able to with DD either.
Mine came in after she was born and I had enough milk to feed a small island of babies.

I didn't have any when I was pg, only once bub was born, both times. And I've always had a great supply.

Well I had it from about 15-16 weeks (when I squeezed), but when I mentioned it my midwife looked at me like I was some sort of weird alien milk machine or something, and said that for most woman it happens during labour or at birth, not during pregnancy, and if it does then usually in the last 8-10 weeks.

I only have the crusties like Hollye was talking about. My MW said that it usually comes in after birth - you will have some now but I cant get anything to come out when I try either - and yes it bloody hurts!!

Same here. Woke up wet one morning and wondered WTH was going on. That night when i was reading a book I felt it on my arm and when I sat up i leaked. I was leaking everywhere.

No, it is not an indication of how much milk you will make, but in some cases it may help your milk come in earlier. Mine came in late Day 1.

When I was about 33weeks preg with DS I had had a shower was was about to shower or something and I noticed a tiny bit of colostrum on my nipples, after that if I squuezed I got a little bit. I have this time with pregnancy #2 that the changes to my boobs happened very quickly (I'm only 11w5d preg)

I certainly would not be worried about this in any way shape or form and no I don't think there is any relation between when colostrum comes in and how much milk you'll have after.
