Will a very strong blunt impact on a breast affect its milk-making?

Basically what the title says. If a breast is hit with a strong blunt impact, will it damage the ducts or affect breastfeeding at all?

Not that I know of. I had a similar thing happen when I was breastfeeding DS. And no problems at all. And if there was any damage the only way to get it to heal quickly would be continuing to feed KWIM?

I wouldn't think so. Might hurt a bit while feeding cos of bruising? I wouldn't think a blunt impact would cause blocked ducts.. but I guess if it was quite forceful it could all be a little squished or swollen for a bit... but like Rouge says continuing to feed would be the best remedy. Hope you're ok :/

It is unlikely to cause a long term issue, although if your breast is bruised you may find feeding a little more tender than usual for a short while. The main worry would be stress/anxiety levels, depending on what sort of incident cause the impact. Are you ok?

I'm thinking bruising could cause a blockage in the duct if the swelling was significant. Nothing u could do but put cold packs on and feed as much as possible, maybe take some neurofen ro reduce the swelling too, before u have a backlog of milk building up making it worse.

My understanding was that it could cause a blockage and then mastitis if there was swelling. When I had mastitis the ABA counsellor said it could be caused by something as simple as the baby giving you an almighty kick in the breast that could cause swelling. So not the milk production itself but the ability to get the milk out IYKWIM.

It can according to a book I have- but it is much more likely to be an issue prior to pregnancy flourishment of glandular tissue, even then most likely minor unless it happened before puberty development finished (in the case of a surgery or a seatbelt crush across chest from car accident etc) in the book it compares it to dropping a rock on a flower bud as opposed to a full blooming flower - damage to a full flower is unlikely to be as serious or permanent. Hope you are ok though and not too sore.
