    BM and eye infection

DS' eye is all gunked up and GP recommended a few drops of bm at each feed, rather than antibiotics, to clear it up.
Has anyone tried this? How long did it take to work (if at all)? Just wondering how long to give it before resorting to the pharmacy stuff
    Thanks

Yes, it works. We used BM and saline solution. TBH, the BM was easier. Should clear up within the week.

Remember, BM has antibodies in it from you, so artificial ones aren't needed.

Agree with Rosehip, bm work wonders. Clean out the eye (I'll say twice a day) with a cotton square and luke warm boiled water from the inside corner of the eye to the outside. Use one square per wipe. If the gunk is alot, you'll have loads of "dirty" squares, but don't use one twice!! Then gently drop in some ebm. It's hard but try getting it IN the eye, instead of just on the lid, kwim??

Yep, it sure does work! Oskar had gunky eyes a few times early on and even had a bit not so long ago. Mind you getting him to lay still these days is a lot harder..lol. I actually used to just squirt it straight into his eye from my boob. I would feed him first cos then the milk came out easier. I used to do it every feed so he was getting heaps and it used to clear within a couple of days. You can actually also use normal cows milk as it carries similar antibodies, although I'd try to BM first

I used BM in my sons eye when he had gunky eyes at 6 weeks old, works wonders, cleared up in about a week. I cleaned the gunk off the eye with saline solution first.

Sorry I missed this Marcellus. You are lucky to have such an informed GP - there aren't enough around.

I am glad that it cleared up quickly. I found that bm did a great job too. DS1 got sent home from day care with conjuncivitis when he was young and they were amazed when he was back 2 days later all cleared up. They used to then joke - where's Jack's mum with her bm? everytime a child got sick LOL!

    Hey Marcellus

I often use BM on Felix! I've used it for gunky eyes and it fixed it up within a day or so.

I've also given little bites and scratches that he has received a bit of a squirt and amazingly, they seem to heal much quicker!!!

How's Aric doing? Hope all is well.
