Ds is 7 month sold and breastfed with 2 bottles of Ebm per day. He has had the bottles since the day we got home from hospy and is fine with swapping between as Dh is sahd.
In the last month I've noticed a slurping and clicking sound. I figure it's attachment but it's not painful and when I take him off and put him back on it still happens. Overnight is not so common, perhaps as he's sleepy and ore relaxed? I'm just worried he's not getting enough milk from the breast as I have a mild bout of mastitis at the moment. I'm a bit prone anyway as I express 3 times a day and bf only twice.
Should I be worried and is there anything I can do?
Often a clicking sound can be the baby breaking suction to avoid a fast flow. It's interesting that i's just started at about 6 months though. Perhaps your supply has increased and this could explain the mastitis as well. Is there any chance of expressing or feeding an extra time or two during the day to keep your breasts emptied? Or maybe try changing sides more often when you express (just keep swapping backwards and forth when the flow slows)?
As long as he's getting enough milk and not hurting you I don't think it would be a problem. How are his wet nappies going? Weight gain? They would be your best signs that he is getting enough milk. As well as him being content!
Thanks for responding. I haven't had him weighed in months it he's getting bigger and a good size-I've just had to swap over to size 0 clothes. I think you're right about fast flow, I've got a really good supply so it makes sense that the flow is also fast. I could add another express mid afternoon....I was getting Dh to bring him to the office but X's just wasn't feeding, he'd refuse so we stopped that and I just feed at 5. That said I feed at 5 then he eats dinner and we do the bath routine and I feed again at 6:30-7 and he still does it then, surely I wouldn't be full and have a fast flow againthatquickly?
I'll get him weighed tomorrow to double check on the gains.
Breasts can refill quite quickly so it could still be that. Positioning is another good idea, sometimes with older babies it is hard to keep them close enough (or still enough!).
I'm having this trouble (splurpy/clicky thing) on my left side. I know my letdown is intense on that side, I pull him off after let down and dry his mouth and my nipple but it always happens.
