    Question Biting/kicking/pinching help please??

    Hi

I have a 11 month old daughter who is horribly addicted to BB milk and I also love feeding her. The problem is that whe has started biting me with her 4 little chompers - 2 up , 2 down. I have tried stopping the feed and saying no - which brings on tears, I have also tried to distract her.

She is a restless feeder who will almost somersault (sp?) on my lap whilst still latched on - or if /i am feeding her lying down she will also attempt a head (face) stand while feeding. She kicks, pinches and punches constantly, and wriggles like ... well a worm the whole time we are feeding.

Please - how can I make her lie still and especially stop the biting? I am sick of feeling like I have just gone a round with Mundine or Danny Green after each feed! It used to be a beautiful experience ... now I am starting to feel used ... does that make sense?

    Thanks

    Allis

Mine was younger when he bit, and I would yelp - not deliberately as such, but I didn't try to hold back on expressing my discomfort either. I would also finish the feed then (by then he tended to be biting because he was starting to feel full and get bored anyway). If he was hungry later then we could try again, but if he bit, same thing, feed over. That worked for us, within a few days.

I'm sure others will be in with ideas re: what worked for them, I'm sure the same thing won't work for everyone. Good luck with it.

Biting is one of the easiest problems to fix. They all "try it on" - for sure. But, they need to learn that it's not acceptable for mummy, and usually they do that and just get on with the process of feeding. You are on the right track. Tell her no, that it hurts you. If she persists, put her down and walk away. There will be tears, but she'll learn.
The acrobatics? Welcome to the world of feeding a toddler! So much to do, so much to see, so many positions to feed in. But, anything that hurts you - tell her "no" - firmly.
