Bleeding nipples!!

Having an issue with this breastfeeding thing - bubby seems to be getting enough milk (I hope) - but my nipples bleed now and again (while she is feeding which freaks me out).

We are very aware of our attachment and I work hard each time to make sure this is ok - I have pain for around the first 10-20 seconds of her latching on. We saw a lactation consultant before we left the hospital who said that we were doing the bf thing beautifully. I had sore nipples initially because of poor attachment but since we have worked on this it seems to be ok, but my nipples just haven't healed since then.

I just want to get rid of the cracked/ bleeding nipples! Any ideas?
I'm tempted to see a lactation consultant again!! I am nowhere near wanting to give up and am still enjoying breastfeeding, I just really want to nip any potential issues in the bud before they become huge.

One word: LANSINOH! Buy it at a chemist.

I had a similiar thing with my first baby and after using this for a day, after each feed....my nipples were healed!

I should add I used it after every feed the whole time I fed DS#1. With DS#2.....initially for the first few weeks and then maybe once a day. Still have some in the cupboard as i will do the same thing with this babeee!!!!

It took a good 2 weeks for mine to stop hurting this time around, and DS had pretty good attachent from early on.
Lansinog or marcalan lanolin are good, but you need to make sure your nipples are dry when you put it on.
If you have the time to wash it off before a feed, pawpaw cream might be worth a shot as well, that was what I used, but it is a bit more inconvenient becuase of the need to remove it for a feed, where the others can be left on.

Try expressing a little bm on the nipples after a bf too, and if you can leave them out to air it might help speed up the healing. I think seeing the LC is a good idea, if you are having any pain upon latching your attachment might need looking at again. But it will take a little time to heal the damage that's been done.

i just wanted to second getting some Lanisoh. this stuff has been my best friend. it completely sorted out a dodgy sore nipple problem that i had ongoing for months.
