I've been taking motilium for 4 weeks now and last week tried to start weaning off it but my milk dropped within a few days so I went back to 2 tablets x 3 doses a day.
LC is saying there is nothing to support its use long term in regards to it affecting me so I'm at the stage where I either choose to keep taking it whilst there is no reference as to its affects on me long term or weaning off and whatever happens happens..
Wondering how long others have used it for?? Any other advice welcome. I've still had to mix feed even with the motilium - just seems these boobies do not meet demand and had exact same problem with DD1.
I took 80mg per day of Motilium for 12 months. There is evidence that high dose/long term use of Motilium is safe, but the studies that you are looking for will reference its use for gastric reflux as opposed to increasing milk supply.
I'm still taking motillium but only 3 a day now. I was up to about 8 for ages. My plan is to reduce it 1 a month until I'm off them completely. DD is 10.5 months old now. Its important to reduce them slowly if you want to get off them, otherwise it will most likely affect your supply.
Who's your LC?
I can't remember exactly but I think I took them until about 5-6 mths with DD1 before weaning. She was mixed fed from about 2 weeks old and that continued until she weaned just before her first birthday.
I took them for a little while with DD2 but really didn't need to. We had a lot of feeding issues (missed tongue tie being the major one) so I had to express for 5 weeks straight then reintroduce the breast. I took the Motillium then to ensure my supply was good despite exclusively pumping. The issues I had with DD1 haunted me a bit I guess.
Anyway, I had to issues being on Motillium and weaning off around the introduction of solids seemed to work well for us.
