Did antibiotics upset your breastfed baby's tummy?

I have a major dental infection and toothache and after five days and extensive dental treatment I'm feeling I need the help of antibiotics to give me so e relief.

I have some options for antibiotics and I've spoken to Rodney whyte at monash medical and he says there is a chance they will upset baby's stomach. I Also have a strong history of breast and nipple thrush so I'm hesitant to take any antibiotics, but at this stage I can't eat or sleep so nipple thrush seems the lesser of two evils!

Anyway. Any experience of antibiotics and breastfeeding babies are welcome!

I had dental surgery when DS was 10mths and had to be on antibiotics for 10days after - he was fine, no sign of a tummy upset and no thrush, but then I'm also not prone to it.

I'd take the ab'd darl, you need to get this infection sorted, I'd also get onto some great probiotics xx

At 5 months I had some AB's - they made DD's poo funny and smelly but otherwise she was fine.

I had three courses when DS was little (within first 6 weeks) and yes, they affected him. His gut would have also been compromised by a few formula feeds early on.
I had one when DD was about 10 days old and it didn't seem to have any effect on her.

It can certainly be worth the risk if you really need them. Hope you're doing better soon.

I had IV antibiotics when DS1 was 16 weeks when I had to have a D&C and yes it did upset his tummy a bit. But had him on probiotics and that seemed to help

I had some when DD was little and yes, it did upset her tummy. DS1, no. Didn't upset him. And he's my chucky pre-schooler now, he's the one who gets too hot and vomits, gets car sick, gets sick on the whizzy ride at the park, etc. DD has the cast iron constitution.

I'm taking ABs at the moment, have to take 3 a day so I've been taking them after dd feeds and she has been fine, windy if anything but that's probably due to refusing to burp

Yes, had mastitis when DD was about 3 weeks, her poo was a greeny colour and for about a day she was a bit grumbly but the impact was pretty minimal tbh. I'd take them if I was you too

Wow I forgot about the mastitis ABs with DS2! How could I??!!?! Anyway they didn't seem to bother him and they were very strong.

I was on three different types at once for severe mastitis when my girls were 3 weeks old. Very unhappy wee girls
