    Medela Pump In Style Advanced

After much research I decided to purchase the above pump but am having some issues and wondered whether there is anyone with the same pump that could assist?

I turn the dial and stimulation phase occurs as it should, the manual then says to turn the dial to increase the suction to the desired level. When I turn the dial past 1/4 expression phase kicks in automatically, I thought that this was not supposed to happen until 2 minutes? In order to get stimlation back I have to turn the dial back down to below 1/4 again but suction is minimal.

When let down occurs I press the let down button but nothing happens, stimulation phase continues, it does not switch to expression phase as the manual tells me it should. I have to crank up the dial in order to get expression phase to kick in and when double pumping, trying to find an extra hand to mess about with the dial is a pain!

I don't know whether I am doing something wrong or whether there is a problem with the pump itself? I have e-mailed Medela and am awaiting a response. I start back at work tomorrow and need to get it sorted ASAP!

    Many thanks.

This kind of wierd behaviour from the pump is sometimes because something isn't sealing correctly - check the dangly bit that goes between single and double pumping, and also check the little white flaps that sit on the yellow things inside the bottles. The manual does have a cleaning and troubleshooting section which might help you if you need to clean further.

I recently purchased the same pump but i can't say that i've encountered the problem that you mention, sorry.

I do find it difficult to double pump and fiddle with the dial.

I hope Medela responds or someone more helpful comes in and posts.

I agree with checking all the parts. I'd pull it all apart, wash thoroughly, and re-assemble. Also, you could try ringing Medela for more prompt service. Or if you have no luck with that, you could try ringing Mothers Direct. The sales staff there can probably help. Good luck!
