I have mastitis and started taking staphylex for it (antibiotics) and one doctor told me it should be fine, the pharmacist told me my baby might get tummy upsets and another doctor told me she recommends I formula feed while taking the antibiotics.
Now I really don't want to formula feed, my son is 8 weeks old and I'm worried he won't come back to the breast if I give him the bottle for the next 4 days. But he has become fussier he keeps latching off and crying while breastfeeding. Last night I had a lot of trouble putting him to sleep as he kept squirming and crying as if he was in pain.
I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this? I hate seeing him like this .
fussiness from abs is common, it can upset their tummies and give runnier poos too. however formula can also upset their tummies, so sometimes if the meds are needed, you just have to ride it out. if you have mastitis, it is important to keep feeding, or at least removing the milk from the breast. can you feel a lump or blockage?
Are you taking the AB right before you feed? If you do they are absorbed by you more and by the time the next feed comes around they are not as strong in the BM.
Kazzo yes I'm trying to avoid feeding him during the time when the meds are at their peak in my milk (between 30-60mins after taking the ab).
Hotl yeah I have noticed runnier poos as well :/. I could feel the lump before but it seems to have subsided now and I can't feel it anymore since taking the abs. I also considered that formula would give him an upset tummy too as well as the fact that it could constipate him. Three more days and we'll be over this hurdle so hopefully he starts settling better...
