    Exclamation help- breastfeeding and maxolon

i've had severe nausea over the last few days, and assuming it's a late onslaught of morning sickness, have been prescribed maxolon tablets. i basically have not stopped throwing up since sunday and cannot keep anything down.
i took the first tablet at 12pm today and then breastfed ds at 3.30pm. ds started getting really lethargic and drowsy about an hour ago and then threw up all his dinner and had diaoreha.
i have just bathed him and put him to bed and he seems fine now, but we are completely freaking out.
can you take maxolon while breastfeeding? what should i do?
obviousley i have not taken any more tablets since that one today.i am too scared.
my nausea is so bad i may have to be put on a drip if we can't get it under control over the nextday or two
    please help!!

    Hi Rainforest
Maxolon is ok to take when breastfeeding. In fact it is often used to increase milk supply.

thanks so much alan- i didn't think the dr would prescribe it if it was a problem.
i have no idea what's wrong with ds then. he seemed to go really drowsy and lethargic all of a sudden- we thought for sure it must have been caused by the medication as it says on it that it may cause drowsiness and not to operate heavy machinery etc.

maybe you and your son could have a tummy bug of some sort?

I hope you feel better soon. As Alan said, it is fine while bfing. There are lots of tummy bugs going round. But if you are worried maybe stop taking it for a couple of days and then start again. That should tell you for sure. I think there are other anti-nausea meds that are safe while bfing, so if it is upsetting your DS you can try a different one. GL.

Hi there my DD is 17 weeks and were fully BF.. I've been taking maxalon on and off to help increase my supply.

Maybe bubs is more lathargic cod you have more milk flowing so he's more full and also needing to swollow and feed more quickly due to more milk.

I know when i take them for few days my milk supply increases making DD feed quicker to gulp down the milk.

if your concerned see your GP. i havent noticed any adverse affects on my DD thou...

sorry to hear this rainforest I was prescribed maxolon as my m/s was severe and i couldn't keep anything down. But i found it made me very drowsy and moody so i stopped taking it. It didn't seem to have any effect on DS though. I don't think much passes through the BM, perhaps he was just coming down with something? I really hope the maxolon is helping you though, it did reduce the severity of the vomiting for me.

Motilium is supposed to have less side effects on bubs, and is often given to little ones with bad tummies , so is gentle. Maybe ask your doc to change meds if it keeps up...

Sounds like he might have the same tummy bug. Hope you both feel better soon. *hugs*

ETA: just remembered you are pg! i would think anything you can take whilst pregnant would be ok for breastfeeding. I'd keep taking it.. you need to stay hydrated being pg and breastfeeding. If your DS remains sick, take him to the dr, you don't want him dehydrating as well.

i think maybe i've actually had gastro the last few days and now ds has it. he cannot keep anything down and has the runs.
i'm taking him to the dr at 1.30pm so hopefully we can get it sorted out

    hi mumma B
we're doing much better. ds started to come good yesterday, he had it for a whole week- he's lost a lot of weight but he's eating again and looking much more energetic. it's a very nasty bug!
