The only sling I have is the ergo, should I get a shoulder sling?
She has loads of wet & dirty mustardy nappies, maybe 8 a day.
We had the nurse come tues and she had put on 130 grams since the wed before. Mon was the first night she cluster fed from 7-11ish & since then she has had this restlessness, wanting to feed constantly etc. She just slept from 1-7 am which is the longest she has slept before & not fed, I thought after yesterdays unsettledness she would be up all night again, before 1am she was screaming & wanted food constantly throughout the day & evening & couldn't settle. She has far too many & too long wake times I think, try vetting her to sleep but she just wants to look around. So she can settle I guess when she is happy. I'll just keep feeding her when she demands it & try all the techniques everyone has suggested and hopefully things calm down.
It's so hard having your first bub and not knowing what to do when things don't seem right.

Hun, you are doing so well A new baby is confusing - you're not alone there.

It's great news that she slept better last night. It sounds like things are going to start settling down now - I hope so! As the others have said, this is all in the normal range, so although it's tiring it's not something to worry about and it does get better. Often mums in the early days have way too much milk and sometimes this leads to babies feeding more often until it settles down. See how you go, but if you want to take it through with someone, give the ABA helpline a call on 1800 mum 2 mum (1800 686 2 686, drop the last 6 for VOIP). You can also check out some articles on their website - www.breastfeeding.asn.au.

You will get there hun and believe it or not, you will get some sleep again

ETA the Ergo should be just fine.

Yea I do burp her in between and she does big burps and I do a nappy change between sides. She seems uncomfortable, arches her back at times, tucks her knees up and screws up her face & screams and usually will burp when i try burping her. she is still wanting to feed every hr, surely she can't be hungry, the crying stops when I am cuddling her and comforting her but then when I think she's asleep and put her down she cries again. Am I doing the wrong thing by holding her? I can't bear to let her cry. Could she be more comfortable lying on her tummy on me than on her back in the bassinet?
Sorry for all the questions she's my first & I'm not sure what to do.
I dont have time to read the other replies but my son used to do this all the time and he would pull his head back and consequently pull my nipple with him *ouchies*....he did this when he had a tummy ache (later found out it was caused by many different foods) - so prehaps she has a tummy ache from something you ate. I learnt that babies don't like to be on their backs or their tummies(or on their side being bf) when they have this pain ~ i found a baby hammock fantastic or a sling. otherwise i'd have to just hold my son while he slept. prehaps cut a few things out of your diet (i had alot of things but you don't have to go so drastic ~ i had to give up dairy, soy, field tomatoes (roma, grape and cherry are ok in small doses) & tomato sauce, sausages, egg & peanuts)
he also used to feed alot; sometimes its just a growth spurt the frequent feeds. even now he will drink alot at night and during the night (even though he is also on solids). if she is gaining weight then don't let the 'not enough milk' lie haunt you.
hope things get easier for you soon

oh and one more thing; i dont know which state you are in but i went to a well recommended lactation consultant (with more than 20years experience in many fields!) and she was fantastic; that was how i found out what he was intollerant/allergic to! was my life saver! as was the other lc's at my local health clinic
