    Breastfeeding and Gastro

I was hospitalized on tues for two days with severe dehydration because I couldn't keep any fluids down since then I've only been able to get down 400ml a day I've just bought some hydrolyte but because of it I haven't had the supply to feed dd I have this feeling that if it continues any longer ill dry up I've also been taking Maxalon but it hasn't helped

I had bad gastro over Christmas and lost my supply for a few days. I just kept feeding as usual and my supply picked up after three days. My DS was a lot older than yours though, so was eating lots of food.

Can you access some donated milk for a few days? I would put baby on the boob for ten minutes, then do a "top up" feed with ebm or formula. That way you are stimulating your breasts as usual, but baby is still getting the milk needed.

Yeah I have been giving formula to top up but have only been putting her in half as much to keep sole fluid for myself so I don't get too dehydrated again but poor bubba is missing boobie

Ive had gastro while BF too though DD was a bit older. What worked for me was Just lots of boob time, lactation tea and expressing - more to boost supply than expecting to get much out. And fluids/hydralite, lots of protein rich foods and good fats once I could stomach them.

Haven't had gastro but I did get dengue fever which left me very sick and dehydrated. Even though DD was 8 months, she had very little interest in solids and mostly relied on breastmilk for food. I had IV fluids on 3 different days and generally struggled to get anything in. My supply really suffered and my poor girl would spend 3+ hours straight nursing and still be hungry. She was pretty much on the boob non stop. I'm just glad she was still napping lots then cause it gave me a break. The upside is when my supply picked back up, it REALLY picked back up, but in hindsight I probably should have given my body a break. Hope you start feeling better soon, look after yourself. It's horrible being sick, especially when you've got a little one wanting boob.
