Right boob causing projectile vomits and explosive poos
Hi all,
Im sure it is not a coincident.
Everytime dd feeds on the right boob she peojectile vomits it all back out and gets stomach windy pain after. She also does explosive poo right after!
This does not seem to happen on left boob well to that extent anyway (i suspect dd has reflux. Going to doc tomorrow)
Anyway right boob is mega squirty. I even try to express 100mls before feeding and dd is still choking on it with the milk coming out and wetting both of us.
How can i slow the flow? I have tried lying down with dd on top but it is still too fast.
Also do you think this is causing the projectiles and explosive poos or am i being paranoid?
I don't think you are being paranoid, I think you know your body and your bubba I had a similar experience. I found that due to a fast let down and oversupply, it made my kids really spewy/windy/upset because they were gulping down this milk. I also worried that they weren't getting much of the fatty hind milk as they either got full quickly or got frustrated by the milk that they stopped.
When you say explosive poos - are they frothy or green at all? I'm pretty sure that's an indicator of too much foremilk, so not enough of the fatty hind milk.
100mls is alot to express before a feed but I have been there too Some women would kill for a supply like that! I would put your babe on the left boob and express the right boob at the same time (it's an art but if you can't do it just hand express into a handtowel) and then put her straight on the right boob.
Best wishes - sounds like you are doing an awesome job with lots of milk.
My DD stopped bfing because of this (and heat in summer)
Will she take a bottle? maybe you can start feeding her on your left side then change once shes kinda use to feeding, or just feed from your left side and express from your right side? I hope it settles down soon
thats great really
apart from starting on the left and expressing from right 1st, theres nothing more I can suggest. Shes still little so as she grows she hopefully can adjust.
If you gentle press babys palm with your thumb, while they are feeding I was told it helps with the sucking ablity- maybe a from of baby acupressure?
Barb is great, see if you can catch her in the advice section
It may be that you have a larger supply on that side and a faster flow as a result. Generally babies get better at handling it as they get older, so it will most likely resolve itself.
In the mean time positional feeding helps some mums, so feeding upright. Or you can try triggering the letdown first, let it get slower then put her on.
