In severe pain

Im pretty sure DD2 has given me a nice case of mastitis or blocked ducts.
Im red, sore, lumpy. It hurts to feed her.

Last night I was really sick. My breast was so red and sore, it was literally too hot to touch. I had shivers, and couldnt get warm. It hurt so much to feed her. To the point where she had a small feed, until I couldnt bear it anymore, then she was off.

Im pretty sure this is the 2nd time in just over a month where she has given me a dose of it too.

I've been doing the usual to help it resolve itself. I've used a heatpack on it, many showers, and she's fed from it too. I've tried to hand express, but instead of milk coming out, it seems very stiff, to the point where it holds form to some degree.

is there anthing else I can do? Am I right in thinking its mastitis? And is it bad that the milk is so thick?

I think that when you get the shivers you need to see a dr for antibiotics. Have you spoken to the ABA?

An electric toothbrush can help massage blocked ducts.

Go to the Dr ASAP (like now!) and get some antibiotics - you will be better in a few hours. How old is you baby now? (1 Yr?) Your little one didn't give you mastitis - but it may have happened if your breast got overly full and wasn't drained (or a too tight bra, or the way you slept - lots of things. It is frustrating to get mastitis with an older baby - but it can still happen

Get to the dr asap. You need ABs Hun. I've had it exactly like you've described and it's nasty.

Thanks ladies. Took your avice. Went straight to the dr, who gave me ab's. Also an ultrasound just in case there was an abscess. thankfully none that he could see. I have to go back in 2 days for a checkup, but if the ab's arent working well enough he wants to admit to hospy for iv ab' s. Apparently the mastitis covers over half my boob, which is why he was worried the ab's wont work.

Barb, I know DD2 didnt cause it. Although she does this thing where she latches on, and then she pull off, like she has a lollipop in her mouth. I can feel her teeth grazing me, and a few times after she has done that I have gotten a small case of mastitis. This is the first time that I havent been able to resolve it myself. thank you, I did tae your advice. May have to have a chat with her about being nice to mummy for the next little bit though, shes pretty stubborn about having her bubby juice still.
