    Sucking vs pumping supply question.

So I have mastitis in my left breast. I've been really sick and it slowly seems to be getting better. I've been feeding DS lots on the effected side and the other and he just doesn't seem satisfied. So I pumped the mastitis side and got 100mls pretty quickly. This makes me wonder if he is sucking very effectively (we are using shields). Could the pump be better at removing the milk than him?
It was all going pretty well until the mastitis kicked in, he got back to his birthweight but now he just seems hungry all the time.

He should be better then the pump. It could be though that either he is having a growth spurt OR it is that he isn't attaching well enough to effectively drain the breast.
I also have been suffering with blocked ducts (probably is mastitis but im just pumping feeding handexpressing as much as I can to get it out) & while Rohan is feeding well etc. I think he is attaching poorly tot he effected side. So I really have to pay attention on that side when I get him on.

Tell me, is he gaining weight? How is that all going? What are his wet and dirty nappies like? It's pretty common that, at this age mums will have a little too much milk for their baby's needs. 100 mls is a lot of milk - tummies are still quite small at this age.

    Thanks for the reply Efjay!

Hi barb he's only been weighed once (@12 days) since coming home and he was back to his birth weight, I'm not sure since how his weight is going.
His nappies have been ok, a couple of poos a day and lots of wee.

Now both breasts are mastitis effected! I can't seem to catch a break with feeding both with DD and now DS!!
