How long, after weaning, do you still produce milk?
I'm curious, this is not a problem, i'm just curious.
My child weaned earlier this year (in summer), when she was 4.25yrs old. We were down to one very quick feed (like a minute) each morning before breakfast. So i thought, i would have very low supply and it would dwindle, then stop quite quickly.
it's now middle of July, and i notice a few drops, when i get out of the shower. Seeing that much, (looking down at myself) is blurry now, i need glasses, so i guess, there might be other ocassions, when i just don't notice, cos i don't see it.
It's not causing me inconvenience or anything, i';m just curious, when does the milk supply completely stop? Or is it me, re-igniting the supply, by looking at cute newborns (because i will never have any more and cannot stop admiring babies whenever i see them).?
I thought I'd stopped when Liebs stopped - but I've noticed that I still lactate a little bit in a hot shower too. But not at other times. (I have been a bit curious so attempted to hand-express under different conditions, so far only a nice hot shower will trigger a minor amount of milk.)
Stopped completely in February but still leak in the shower. Makes me think, if I pumped now, would my supply come back? I know Lachlan wouldn't take the breast anymore, but he still has bottles...
I kinda like the freedom, so probably won't pump but i had always wondered..
I stopped when James was 17 mths old and he is now 33 mths old and I still get a little bit of colostrom from one nipple in the shower sometimes when I try!!! Human body is pretty incredbile.
BR - There are others that are more knowledgeable but I would think that yes if you wanted to pump say once or twice a day to give him EBM you could increase your supply, esp if you are still leaking.
I can imagine that even after I'm no longer breastfeeding that I'll still produce a small amount of milk. I think this will be the case because before I ever even fell pregnant I would produce a little colostrum and milk (especially after a shower). I think you can just always make a like prolactin hormone which makes milk.
