Attachment on one side is really painful at the moment and then when dd is drinking I get like a pain that kind of radiates upwards to underneath my arm. It hurts a lot and continues the whole length of the feed. It's not my usual symptoms of thrush but I'm not sure what else it could be. The only other thing I've noticed is when dd pulls off that nipple is a really really dark purple. In a few seconds it goes back to a normal colour. So does it sound like thrush?? Whatever it is, it freaking hurts. Sometimes that boob aches a little bit in the nipple too.
It sound like you might have some sort of infection. Hard to say what. Try a nipple creme like kennacomb, on prescription for your doctor - it has an anti fungal, antibacterial and steroid - something in it will probably help.
Hmm, I'm not sure if this is thrush or not (though the pain radiating through the breast was true for me when I had thrush), but as for the nipple turning purple - I experience vasospasms after feedings, so the nipple turns white and/or purple before returning to normal. Though, I can't imagine this is true for you as you've been breastfeeding for months and it's never happened before... Sorry I couldn't be more help!
