Ok so our bf ride so far has been rocky. DD is only 2 weeks today and at the start was great then....she wasnt getting full before my milk came in and was screaming non-stop so we had to top her up...yep ok no probs.
Then my milk came in YAY...or so i thought having already large breast they were now so big i couldnt get her on even after expressing some :S Ok i thought thats fine il express and feed her that way untill they calm down.
thats when we go to not to many days ago. They seattled down and i put her back to the breast she is doing fine attachment is great feeding good...........BUT only on the right side! Any time i even lie her down to attach her to the left she screams and does not stop ive got no chance of getting her on
I thought maybe its my nipple having large breast she may have issuse with it so thought ild get a niplet yea cant find them anywhere so i used the pump for a lil bit first then try...still no go.
Im outta ideas and i dont want to give up but im so exhausted and outta ideas.
Could it be thrush?? The nipple on the left side isnt sore but appears to be white in the middle(TMI) but its not on the other and ive no idea what thrush looks like. To me it looks like its just white like after i use the pump to express except its always there.
PK was like this too only liked one side, so I ended up having to feed him with the football hold on the left side ( the side he didnt like ) and hold him across my tummy on the right, he just wasnt very co-ordated to do it any other way... but it only took me doing this for a few weeks and now he feeds well normally on both sides... I hope some of that made sence
a midwife at my hospital said sometimes they prefer one side, sometimes have a sore head, shoulder, neck from the birth etc. not sure if that's your reason though . . my DS preferred my left side at first, so I also did the football hold for the right side and that sorted it out.
You could try chiro or an osteopath - sometimes they're uncomfortable on one side.
Trying a different hold might also help - like the football or lying down
You need to see a lactation consultant as soon as possible. You are still only on your feeding L-plates at 2 weeks and there is every chance you will go on to feed just fine - but you do need to find help and support for yourself. In these cases, it almost never anything about the mother or her breasts and usually always something about their body - as some-one else said, stiffness and soreness from the birth, injury during birth etc, and with the right support your baby will overcome this. Was your baby full term? how did the birth goe?
Have you tried the football hold? Just basically slide your baby across so that he remains in the same position as he was on the breast he preferred. A simple tool like a nipple shield introduced temporarily may heilp on that side. But it would be really worthwhile to get an LC to assess the situation. If you tell me where you live I might be able to recommend one
Just saw this thread and wondering how you're going? Is DD still having troubles on one side? I just wanted to mention that DS was like that, it seemed he 'preferred' one side, but then we realised he was actually injured from the birth. He had a dislocated shoulder and severe torticollis, so it was easily picked up and treated.
Robert still prefers my left boob to my right - At least now he lays on my tummy and turns his head (rather awkwardly I might add) so he can still lay on his left side but drink from my right boob..... hmmm, hope that makes sense?! It was uncomfortable to begin with and, well it looks downright odd to other people, but it seems to be working. Hope you work it out!
