Just wondering if this means my little man is looking to wean his last BF? He is 15 months old now and we have been down to one BF which he has first thing in the morning before brekkie for 3 months +. This has all been going fine until recently when his interest in the feed has dropped right off. Now he will only stay on for a minute or so each side before he is off and not interested in having any more. I know they're pretty efficient little things but he takes way longer to drink his bottles so I know he is having way less milk from me than in his bottles. This morning he would only go one side and just refused the other.
Is this what happenes when they self wean? Don't know if it makes any difference but I have been pretty sick with flu over past few days and doc has put me on antibiotics. He does know I am still doing last BF so was very careful as to what he put me on.
Will be very sad if he is self weaning as it will be end of our special time together but happy that it will be his choice rather than mine. We had horrid horrid start where he wouldn't feed at all so can't believe we made it to 15 months! its definitely thanks to al the lovely ladies here whose support kept me going!
What do you think? Am going to persevere offering for next few days but wonder if this is the sign that he wants to call it a day?
would you normally offer the morning feed or would he normaly ask for it? it sounds like you are doing a great job following his lead and while yes this may mean he is weaning it could also mean he was more interested in getting up for the day. I would keep doing what you are doing and he will let you know. He might want it again tomorrow but not the next.
You can follow the don't offer, don't refuse option, if you like. If he doesn't ask for it, don't suggest it to him and see what happens. It sounds like he is gradually losing interest.
Well done to 15 fantastic bfing months!! Let us know how you go. Oh, and if he does have another bf, get your DH to take a photo. It's nice to be able to look back and remember just how long you did it for.
He has reverted to taking both sides the last two mornings but really isn't staying on very long atall so think the end is coming soon. Hadn't though of it like that before but its definitely me offering rather than him asking these days. Couldn't say exactly when that change happened but its been that way for a little while now. LOL I can remember how he used to scream if I didn't get them out as soon as we were on the bed together!!! So think if I was to follow the don't offer don't refuse option that he just wouldn't ask! For now I think I'll just take the few minutes I get and accept it when he doesn't want any more.
Jennifer13 what a fab idea to have final photo taken. I'll get him to do it in the morning. DH took some just after he was born when he was put on the first few times but I've none since then. Would be lovely to the begining and end of our journey. Being an older Mum its unlikely that we'll get lucky and have another little one now so the memories will be really important.
