um... ten days for us... but I'm a hornbag... and DH doesn't mind a little blood IYKWIM...
WOW ten days Divvy!!!!!!!And I thought I was a hornbag!!!!!!!
I think mine was about 3wks. I had a C/S too and a horrible labour and while it wasn't terribly comfortable, it wasn't painful either. Just take it slow.....I tried to hold off for longer, but I was tooooo horny (couldn't BD during last 2-3mnths pg due to asthma). Poor DH was terrified of hurting me...
It was 6 weeks for us, when my post bleeding stopped.
Katkins - Are you having a c/s this time because your pregnancies are so close? My OB mentioned he`d wait and see how I go before deciding if I need a c/s or not this was after we told him we wanted to TTC straight away but as it turns out Matthew and his sibling are going to be more then 12 months apart.
Take Care
Deeanne
Dee, the midwives clinic are happy for me to try VBAC as long as there are no other complications. I fully dilated last time.....it was just that Kat went into serious distress so I had to have C/S. This time I'm hoping I'll have less probs and be able to deliver naturally
Oh good luck with a natural delivery Kerrie, I`m so hoping for that too, just have to conceive first. It`s wonderful that OB`s/Midwives will allow us to have a VBAC.
Dee, just relax and enjoy the process of TTC. We weren't even trying. In fact we were trying not to, but my cycle was still screwy from having Kat and hubby went OS when I was meant to O and when he came back we got carried away one night and well......Jessie is on her way! *L* BIIIIIIGGGGG shock to him I tell u what!! I suspected due to M/S four evenings in a row (which is always when my M/S is worst)....
Don't get us wrong....we are happy to be having another....but if we could have planned it, we would have had a bigger Gap. Anyway, must run....Kat's got a temp and can't leave her for long....she's sookie and wants mummy to hold her all the time....
GOODLUCK with TTC.....
Hi All,
Help - I have just found out that I am going to be having a cesaer and am a bit scared. I had a vaginal birth with my first, but because this baby is 'frank breech' and I am 36 weeks, I have been scheduled in. I have no idea what to expect and am a bit frightened to tell you the truth. Has anyone else had a breech delivery or how did you feel during and after the operation.
thanks and I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Hi Kazzy,
I had a vaginal birth for my first two, then no.3 got stuck and I had to have a c-section after 24 hours of labour. Having had one, I just about wish I'd planned it from the beginning! When planning this birth, I wanted to take all measures possible to avoid a c-section, and now I'm wondering why I was so dead-set against it. The recovery time afterwards is taking me longer than it did with a vaginal birth, but the birth itself was dead-easy by comparison!
The c-section itself is painless and very un-scary, not what I'd imagined at all. You need to curl forwards and hold still while they insert the spinal tap for your anaesthetic, but after that you go totally numb from the boobs down and can just relax and wait - for all of about four minutes, which is how long it takes them to get the baby out! They put up a screen so you can't see them make the incision, and you can feel your body rock from side to side as they work the baby out through the incision, but there is no pain. It took them about 20 minutes after the baby was out for them to patch me up, and then it was just a matter of topping up the painkillers for the next few days until the suture healed enough to be able to move around without much pain.
If I was to have another baby, I'd be planning a c-section straight off - much less traumatic than a 24 hour labour and not being able to push the baby out, I can tell you! Max wasn't breech, but he was posterior. He turned around during the labour, but not enough, so he was still mispresenting, and that plus his size made a c-section necessary.
Afterwards, make sure you get the physio care you need to help the muscles recover as quickly as possible, and DO plan on getting someone in to help with the housework, as if you overdo it in the first few weeks you'll double your recovery time.
Don't panic!!! It really isn't as scary as it sounds.
Kerrie
Hi Custardtart,
thankyou so much for your information. It has made me feel alot better. I think that I am just freaking out a bit about why the baby is breech this time around, but I suppose they all have a mind of there own. I will find out on the 17th if I am to go in or not - maybe the baby will turn, but I doubt it. Well, either way, it is good to know that it isn't as scary as I am thinking it is going to be.
Thanks Again and I'll keep you updated. Oh, how long ago was your ceasar and how did you go with your other two - caring for them??
Kazzy
kazzy - as you know, i had my c/section last tuesday. it is not at all like i expected in some ways, and i had asked heaps of questions here on BB.as kerrie said, the birth itself is fine, really nothing to be scared about at all. i found it so fascinating, i couldnt believe it all. i have heard that if you are in labour before the c/section the recovery is much worse. i went into labour before mine, and i did find the recovery to be very difficult (sorry....). but the other reason i found it hard was that the morphine kept making me vomit. so i had to go off it, so my pain relief was a lot less than it could have been.
if you have any specific questions, i would be happy to tell you about my experience (it is all so clear in my mind still)...
My c-section was just under five weeks ago, and the recovery is taking longer than with a vaginal birth, but then you'd have to expect that. With regards to caring for the other children, well, they aren't toddlers, so it was easier for me. You WILL definitely need help around the house, and if you have a c-section, don't expect to be out of hospital much before six days have passed, and you will still need to lie down and rest as much as possible for a few weeks after that.
I'm only just starting to feel like I am fit enough to do things like shopping, and I have to be very careful not to overdo it. I lifted something a bit heavy two days ago, and am sure I pulled at the incision and made it worse, so I'm being very tentative with how I move at the moment. Don't plan on doing any heavy housework, I can manage to keep the kitchen and laundry operational and that's about it, I have cleaners coming in to do everything else. Your little man will have to get used to you not being able to pick him up for a couple of months.
If you can, line up some help once or twice during the week for a friend/relative to take your 3 yr old out so you can catch up on a couple of hours sleep - and if your baby ends up being a restless sleeper (like my Max with his colic), get them to take the baby out in a pram too, so you are alone in the house and can totally relax! If you don't have someone nearby who can help you with this, why not put out a call on Bellybelly for someone local to give you a hand, with the understanding that when you are back on your feet you'll return the favour?
None of what you are going to go through is particularly scary, but you would be wise to plan as much as you can to help you rest as much as possible after the birth, at least for the next month. Fill the freezer with casseroles and stock up on nappies, nursing pads and panty liners! I find that they are the most awkward things to send hubby running out for at the shops :)
Good luck, and don't panic, you'll get through this with flying colours.

i have noticed that just above my scar, i have a swollen area, i guess it looks a bit like a roll of fat, just the length of the scar. it is only above the scar and not below. it only really shows when i am upright. when i lay down it sort of flattens out. did anyone else have this? i am just a bit worried because when all the drs did their checks i was laying down so i am a little worried they didnt see it. i'm guessing it is just normal swelling though?
Linda - I had the same thing, except mine was on one end of my scar. At my 6 week checkup my GP said it was just normal swelling and would go away eventually. Mind you, this is the same GP who when I asked what the "possible CPD" comment in my baby book meant, told me he didn't know what CPD was!!
I still have a little lump, it almost looks like when they stitched me back up that they overlapped the joining skin a little too much, if that makes any sense??
Nic
thanks nic, it probably is just normal swelling,
Hi Everyone,
thanks for the info Linda and Custardtart. I have been bboked in for the 24th for definite now and am a bit excited. Where is everyone - once we have all had our babies, what forum do we move to????
Talk soon.

The 'Your baby buddies' forum!
Kerrie
Kerrie is right, but you can still talk about your experience with your c/s here!!!
For sure - I never came here before having my baby, because having a c-section was the last thing on my mind! Having had two children vaginally previously, I certainly didn't expect to have to have a c-section third time around. This thread had been a real blessing to me.
Kerrie
Hi everyone, has been helpful to read about all your experiences. Am not preg yet, hope to be soon but already know that i will be having an elective c/s as had 3rd degree tearing with first baby. I had my little girl 3 weeks early and am absolutely terrified that when i have another baby i will go into labour early and not get to the hospital in time to have a c/s. Has anyone else had this kind of predicament and can anyone ease my mind?
Helen, i went into labour 3 weeks early, and i was booked in for an elective c/section. i went into labour at 12:50am. got to the hospital and labour was progressing pretty quickly. even though it was a public holiday and in the middle of the night (in a small town mind you) they called in the OB and all the theatre staff and i had Emma by 3:50am. so i would try not to worry too much. they really do get onto it pretty quickly when necessary,
HTH
I had wondered about that - what would happen if you went into labour when you had an elective c/s planned. So thanks for that Linda :)
:) Thanks Linda you have put my mind to rest. Well as much as can be expected. I'm sure I will probably start to stress again come 30 weeks. Hoping for a positive test within the next week. 28days today dr says I should wait until 35days and then test. Fingers crossed. [-o<
Love Helen
Glad to have helped Helen.
Sarah - i had wondered too - and found out the hard way LOL
Theresa - I just wanted to say that I'm not sure about recovery times etc for subsequent c/s....hopefully someone can answer your question!
I'm finding that it is taking me a lot longer to recover from the birth than I had anticipated, and I've ended up with ligament pain in my hips again, and sciatic pain all the way down my legs. Is anyone else having these problems, or are you all up and about?
It's seven weeks now, and I expected to be fully recovered and back to normal, so it's quite a disappointment that I still have to take it so easy or I end up flat on my back. I know some women seem to recover just like that *snaps fingers* so it's really frustrating me that I have to do so little at the moment.
Kerrie
kerrie, i am so sorry to hear your recovery is not going too well. it has been 3 weeks for me, and while i am feeling pretty good now, the initial recovery for me was a lot worse than anticipated.
i think the best thing to do is try not to do too much, as frustrating as that is. your body is telling you it is not ready to do too much just yet. as for the ligament pain and sciatica, could you see a physio to help with that?
i hope it improves for you soon,
Kerrie - It took me a long time to recover, I can`t remember exactly when I felt back to normal again, probably around the 10 week mark I think, but I did a lot of silly things, I never had a rest and did the housework plus I was up and out all day at FIL`s funeral on Day 3 which did take it`s toll on my body.
Try and rest up as much as you can
Hi Kerrie
I hate to say it but I was one of those people that were up and about and recoverd really soon.I was up and about, about 9 hours after having the c/s and from about week 2-3 felt quite recovered from the op.Sorry to hear its taking so long to recover, but remember everyones bodies are different.Don't force yourself to overdo it just because you think you should be feeling better by now, especially if your still having the ligament pain and pain down your legs.OUCHIE!I remember what that was like! 8-[
Hey girls
Just wondering how long it was till you were able to go to aerobics/exercise again after your c/s?Am going to ask my doc tomorrow but wanted some first hand advice first. Its been 6 weeks tomorrow since my c/s.Also when did you start having baths/go swimming again?I'm not planning on going to high level aerobics or anything, just body balance which is pilates/yoga.
kirsty - wow at being up & about in 9 hours!!!!
i was told i could have a bath straight away when i went home, but to wait 6 weeks till swimming. but the nurse comes today and cause my scar is healing well im going to ask if i can swim now (its so hot here & DH jumps in the pool every arvo & its killing me LOL)
i have been walking already but not sure about aerobics. i would say see how it feels & make sure you let the instructor know you have recently had a c/section. i plan on joining the gym at 6 weeks.

Hi there girls, i hope i can join you all in here.
I am almost 20 weeks along (yay) with No.1 after a couple of losses last year. I have now been told that i have complete placenta previa. Have any of you had this? I have been told that because the placenta is covering the cervix, i will have to have a c/s unless the placenta moves itself. The c/s is not my biggest worry, but i just hope it make it to 36 weeks without haemmorhaging.
I would love to hear if anyone knows anything about having placenta previa or has any info to help me! Thanks girls.
Kirsty - gosh, you are certainly keen aren't you! LOL I would say that as long as you are given the all clear medically, you should be fine to ease yourself into exercising again. If you are going to be doing pilates or yoga, probably let your instructor know that you have just had a c/s so that you don't do anything that is too strenuous on your stomach muscles.
Kerrie - I wouldn't say that I recovered from the c/s quickly either. I can't say exactly how long it took, but it took me a while. I felt drained emotionally and physically. I had a labour followed by the emergency c/s and felt like I'd given birth twice - it's a lot for your body to handle! I gradually eased myself into doing things....like going for short walks (like only 10 minutes or so) but they alone would tire me out big time.
About the pains you are having - did you have any back/hip problems at all before or during your PG? I have existing back/hip problems which were actually pretty good during PG because all the muscles and things are pulled quite tightly to support your back. After birth, things start to relax again so it means that those joins that were supported well during PG, are a bit vulnerable again. That was the case with me too. Bearing in mind that your stomach muscles play a big role in the stability of your back/hips, and they've just been through major surgery, it can mean things are a bit wonky for a while. I hope it settles down; I know it's not very pleasant!
Hi - I had an emergency CS almost four years ago and was out of bed 12 hours later. Didn't labour for very long, I was induced two weeks overdue and it didn't work.
Can't remember how long I had painkillers for afterwards, but I felt fine, no after effects.
I played netball about 8 weeks later and felt OK. I think the only thing I avoided was carrying wet washing.
A friends sister had placenta previa and it wasn't picked up before she went into labour and the baby nearly died. I can't recall how it was picked up in the end, but she had to be transferred to a city hospital in a big rush.
Barb.
I know what you mean Melinda about feeling like giving birth twice.I was in labour for 23 hours before I had my emergency c/s.I still can't beleive that they let me go that long!It was just so cruel! My back hurt for soooo long after and still hurts now and then.I don't think I'm going to be doing anything to strenuous exercise wise, as like you girls have said I don't want to damage something after having such a good recovery.
Hope2006-I'm sorry I don't know much about placenta previa.I hope everything goes well for you and that you make it to that magic 36 week mark.
Kirsty, If you're not exercising yet you'd probably find some benefit from just getting in the pool and doing some leg lifts and stretches - I find it helps amazingly with back pain if I use the exercise pool twice a week. I can't swim yet, not properly, because it hurts my stomach, but I find that the hydrotherapy pool is a real blessing and frees up my lower back a lot.
Kerrie
Hi All, I'm new to this thread so please bare with me.....
My son has recently turned 2 and was born by elective c-section as he was too big...now I am 11 weeks pregnant with our 2nd and have been asked many times from friends and family, if the circumstances are different, will I attempt a natural delivery......NOW WILL I, that is the question.....I really don't know and will ask the advice of my ob. Would love some advice from you guys, anything just give me your stories PLEEESE!!!!!! I am really stressing over this for some reason, when up until being asked, I always thought that our 2nd would be born by c-section also, but now I just don't know...
Thanks guys, hope to hear from you all soon......
Hi Karen, I can only say, if I was in your position I would be trying for an EBAC, see the thread up above this one in the forum? There are women in there who have been discussion natural births post c/s. The reason I would definately try for a natural birth is because the circumstance around Matilda's birth means that there is no reason I can't try for a natural birth. Its definatley an option worth researching & discussing with your OB. Good luck!!
Welcome Sharon and Karen :D
Did anyone see the c-section on RPA thursday night?
Nic
