Helen - we DTD after 6 weeks & it was a bit scary at first, but really not too bad.
We were keen and only waited 2 weeks! I was terrifed and we took it really slow and it was fine and not sore at all. It was weird dtd without the huge belly though!!
Hi Melinda, I was in hospital for the whole 6night stay. For 2 reasons, 1 Eithan was admitted to the special care nursery and 2 I wasnt ready to go home. My recovery has been a lot better than I expected, apart from the infection everything has been going really smoothly.
I was told also by the midwifes before I had him that I wasnt necessarily going to need to be in there for the whole 6night stay. Something you should talk to your ob about.
I know you are keeping the date a secret, so I am wishing you all the best and cant wait to see a birth announcement. Will you be having a photo in the mercury. I was going to have one of Eithan and Bella but he had to go into the humidicrib and noone notified me that the mercury was there so I didnt get to have one. Oh well.
Love
We DTD earlier than the 6 weeks - but took it slow and i discovered that i had been nervous for no reason. Yeah i was still tender scar-wise but i called the shots with what i was comfortable with. I think DH was more worried than i was - lol!
Just do what feels best for you - you know what your body can cope with. And i must admit it felt nice to feel like normal again iykwim.
Yeah my OB said that it would depend on how I felt, whether I went home earlier or not. At this stage, I certainly intend to though.....I don't like being away from DH & Jacob and emotionally I know I will cope a lot better being at home IYKWIM? I always feel better in my own environment.....
Not sure about the photo Helen LOL...maybe, so long as I'm not in it! We didn't have it done with Jacob ( I can't remember why specifically but me feeling horrendous probably had something to do with it!?)
Mel Zander was born early Sunday morning & we were at home by Wednesday lunchtime. After that we had the domicillary midwife come to the house every day for a week.
Thanks for that Sarah.....I was in hospital for almost a week with Jacob and it's really important to me that I'm not this time!!!
I just had to get out of there so we left as soon as possible. As far as I'm aware day 3 is the soonest you can leave a public hospital after a c/s and that's what I did. I must admit though that I got home & cried saying I shoudn't be home but I didn't want to be at the hospital & I didn't belong anywhere!! I think that's when baby blues hit me!! But after a nice rest in my own bed I felt much better.
IKWYM about wanting to get out of there! I felt the same way, so by almost a week, I was going nuts.
There's nothing like getting some rest in your own bed though is there!
Oh my, I was crying so hard by the 5th day I was hanging to get out of there.. Mark made me stay until his leave kicked in. They gave me a whole heap of DNP papers, it wasn't that I was depressed the damn hospital and no sleep was doing my head in.
LOL.. I was the opposite. I wanted to stay longer! My milk had only just come in on the day I left (Good Friday) but because they only had skeleton staff on, I was encouraged to go home. I think I was just a little frightened to go back out into the big wide world (plus I liked the hospital food ;) - oh, and I had no kitchen so going home wasn't exactly enticing!!).
As it was I felt like we were stealing Gabby when we walked out with her, LOL.
LOL I checked myself out on day 3. I just couldn't sleep there & was going really well as far as bf was going... so I asked the midwives if I had to stay & they said no, I had a midwife visit twice on the days afterwards and all was good. I didn't have my milk ever "come in" I never felt any different as far as bf was concerned and I didn't have the baby blues that I noticed, I was pretty down but I thought it was due to have massive abdominal surgery & 20 hours of labour leading up to it that would cause me to be tired ;).
I wanted to stay. I asked if it was OK & they said it was great that I wanted to, mind you they were a lot less busy by then. I stayed 6 days all up, but mostly for advice on b/f.
Has anyone had more than 2 c-sections ?
I'm going to be having my 3rd next year and just wondering if i will be allowed to have another baby after this one.
Ive had 3 Michelle and been told that its no worries to have another one if I wanted/needed.
Jo
My mum had 4 caesareans. She was told she shouldn't have the 4th but she was going to keep having babies until she got her boy whether they said no or not!! So in the end she had her 3 girls & 1 boy. Her last was 21yrs ago next week & I would assume that with technology today you'd be able to have more.....
Thanks Jo and Sarah you don't know how happy i am to hear that.
Can I ask a dumb question girls?? In 3 wks I'm having my second c/s and was wondering where do they cut again? Over the last scar or do they make a new one?
Interesting question Kirsty... that is something I would like to know too for future reference!!!!
When i had my second one they cut over the last scar and you wouldn't know they have been in twice.
Thanks Michelle! Was a bit embarrassed to ask!
hehehe, me too !!!!, funny how some things are embarrasing to ask & others you dont care about LOL
Thanks Michelle... i was wondering, thought i might end up like a tiger LOL....
Kirsty & Michelle don't be embarrassed to ask. To be honest it wasn't something i thought about until they told me and now all DH asks is if they can just put a zip in to make it easier.
Anything else you want to know just ask away and i will help the best i can.
Well I am scheduled to have my 2nd c-section on monday 16th october.
1st c-section was an emergency so I do not remember much of it but this time I am a little nervous about the spinal block. How much does it hurt????
I don't think it hurts that much, Ally. I had an epidural and I didn't feel it at all (mind you, I was having contractions at the time!) but I have heard that a lot of people are surprised at how little the spinal hurts. Best of luck for the 16th! How exciting!
Michelle - LOL @ your DH requesting a zip! That would be very handy! ;)
hey girls,
I can't believe i have only just found this thread!!!
I had to have a emergency c-section as bub was in distress, i fought and fought with them i just wanted a natural birth, but they won thank god as i would have dies and so would Tarleha. I was having contractions 2 mins apart and was 7.5cm dilated i just wanted to go the rest.
They said a ceaser would be best as she was a big baby, she tturned out to be 6pound 10ounces so not big at all!!!
I recovered very well, i was walking around as soon as the catheder was out and didn't have any pain medication. The nurses were suprised.
My IV came out when i was moving around so day after c-section.
I was wondering if any of you girls have had vbac's and how long after you had your first one was it??? As i really want a vbac next time and don't know if when i plan to fall is going to be to close to try for a vbac???
Kristee-Lea I don't think there's a time limit between a c/s to a VBAC. The only thing they say is that there should be 12months before a pregnancy after a c/s to make sure everything has healed properly.
I didn't know that Sarah! Wow - 12 months!
Yeah most Drs reccomend 12 months so the scar can repair itself enough to allow for stretching out as your belly gets bigger. Some say less, but as far as I know 12 months tends to be the consensus. I do know lots of people though that have done it & not had any issues - my mum had only a 16months gap between my younger siblings.
Also... I think you have to be monitored if you are having a VBAC?? Not sure how flexible that is. A friend of mine had a VBAC for her second bub and she said it was very frustrating being hooked up to a CTG alllll the time. Might depend on the hospital too??
I'm pretty sure Cailin wasn't monitored constanty for her VBAC.
JuneMummy - I had Matthew in May 2005 via c/s, I was pregnant with #2 when Matthew was 5.5 months, we asked our OB about when to try for #2, his advice was as long as I didn`t fall pregnant within the first 6 weeks but all OB`s are different and I think most do say 12 months.
Deb - It does depend on hospitals but I also found it also depends on each individual midwife and the Dr on duty, for instance I was in the bath for 6 hours with a midwife being happy just using the droppler yet the next midwife wanted me strapped to the monitor, I did get my way a few times when I told her I HAD to get back into the bath LOL
Deb it does depend on the hospital & which midwife is on duty. Our hospital has a policy of continuous CTG monitoring, but I have presented my case ;) and am having agreed upon intermittent monitoring with doppler & CTG.
Oh well... that's good! And... I guess if you're adament about not wanting to be strapped to the CTG (stick up for what you want) then there's not much they can do, hey? My friend isn't the most forceful person it the world... she probably just went along with what she was told.
Thanx for your advice girls,
My doctor told me i was fine to fall again as long as it wasn't within 6 weeks.
But i was wondering if it would be longer if i wanted to try for a VBAC.
Well i may be preg by accident atm so we will just see what happens.
Bye for now
Ooo good luck, June Mummy :)
Thanks for your luck debbie,
But it was not to be i started AF yesterday, now that it has started i have sorted out FF so i have started charting, it seems though that i am going to have long cycles as it was 10.1weeks since my last AF
Did anyone see RPA tonight with the lady who was having twins? I cried my eyes out for the little bubbies, then cried because of the c-section and the memories it bought back for me.
I wouldn't have thought that after almost 7 years it would upset me the way it did. Maybe I'm just all hormonal ATM LOL!
Nic
oh Nic I would have cried too!! I cry when I read birth stories that are remotely close to mine all the time.
Nic, oh my, how small were those poor little babies. I was nearly crying, probably would've been if it weren't for the males sitting in the loungeroom.
I was very intrigued(sp?) saying Oh no wonder your stomach hurts so much afterwards. Pretty yucky stuff, but interesting notheless.
