    spinal AND epidural?

I have been told that I will have a spinal and epidural for my caesar. My first caesar was not at the same hospital and I only had the spinal with pethidine after for pain. I don't like the idea of a catheter in my back and having two procedures in my spine. How many others are having both or have had both?

I had both. It was just what the hospital did. I think they use the spinal for the anesthetic and then the epidural for a shot of pain meds after? But I didnt have any issues with it. If you are concerned, ask if they can just do the spinal.

I had the epidural for pain relief in labour with Izzy and then when I had the c/s they took it out and gave me the spinal. With James I had just a spinal so I would talk to them about your concerns and see what they say.

huh didn't know they did both. Might ask that question myself too. I was under the impression that the spinal is heaps better than the epidural. What are your thoughts?

I had an epi which failed so they put me under a general
If I have another CS I will be telling the anaesthetist I want both because surely a least one of them will work

PS, with the epidural, just remember that yes they do leave a small tube in the epidural space but they take the needle out so it's not quite as bad as it seems.
