    How early was your c/section?

I'm just curious as to what time they are usually performed? I thought it was around 38 weeks... We had ours booked in yesterday & I was surprised by how late it is (less than 10 days before EDD).

The OB at the hospital said that they like to do it closer to the due date these days even if mum has GD (which I do) and a suspected big baby (which I do also, he's measuring 40w already). Both other babies were 8 & 10 days late so I'm not all that concerned about going into labour beforehand, but I was just surprised.

I think that's pretty standard. I had my c-section at 36 weeks but that was due to other medical factors and we couldn't wait- she had to come out. I'll be having an elective c-section this time and OB has said it will be around 10 days prior to EDD (as long as the baby remains safe this time)

I'm having mine at 37+2 but that's for my own reason iykwim. I'm sure if I wasn't a nutcase it would be more 38-39 :P

Mine was 38 + 6. My OB said 38 weeks would be the minimum he would do in normal circumstances and ideally 38+5 to minimise breathing issues. But that's in completely normal circumstances not sure about GD etc

My elective with DS was at 39 + 1. My OB liked to wait until 39 weeks.

Mine is booked in for 39+3! My ob said she can't see any reason to do it earlier.
    Bring it on!

i would go as late as medically possible, especially as your other babies were of longer gestation

If Amelia hadn't flipped back from breech (and it wasn't an emergency c/s because of the ECV) the doctor was going to do it at 39w. If I remember correctly, that specific doctor usually did electives on the Tuesdays, so it would've been 39+1. My memory might be failing me though, it was only a possibility for three days

my sister and friend were both booked for 39w on the dot. my ob has said if i choose to go with a section she wont perform it prior to 39w without medical reason.

Mine was 36 weeks but it was an induction for pre eclampsia which ended with an emergency c/section.

Very interesting, I had always thought it was around 38 weeks. Bub is due March 17 & we were originally told March 1st-10th which fits in with that.

I'm happy for him to stay in as long as he needs, I just thought it was interesting that they are doing them later now.

My OB said they like to do it as close to 39 weeks as possible, the longer they stay in the better, mine was at 38+6 cos that was the closest date they had free in their bookings.

With DD she was delivered at 38 + 2, my Ob preferred to deliver between 38-39 weeks and the twins were born at 37 + 4 (same Ob), I was originally booked in for 38 + 4 with them but he took pity on me because I was so large, uncomfortable and had sever PUPPS rash as well. When they were born he told me they could have stayed in for another week easily.

DD1 was booked in 10 days before EDD. In hindsight, I wish I'd waited until her EDD or until I went into labour naturally. It wasn't life threatening.

The guidelines changed from 38 wks a few years ago.

My c-section was scheduled for 17th Jan (38+6) and my EDD was the 26th Jan (this year) but she decided to make an earlier appearance and ended up having my c-section on the 15th Jan (38+4)

    Hi Sarah.

the recomendations have changed abit since i had my first in 2000.

    2005 c section booked @ 37 weeks. labor and emergency c section @ 35 weeks

    2006 c section booked @ 38 weeks. labor and emergency c section @ 34 weeks.
