Cars that fit 3 or 4 car seats??

Just looking to make a list of cars to check out that will fit at least 3 car seats. We want 4 kids so I guess eventually we'll need one to fit 4. Hopefully around a 2 yr age gap again so I'll at least need one that will fit 3 in in the near future. Our car won't. DD1 has a maxirider which is pretty wide so the dog is lucky if he can fit in between them atm, LOL.

    Soo.....what should we look at?

Good question Heaven. We'll need to get a new car to fit number 3, so I'll be watching this thread too!

We have a Tarago and fit four car seats for four kids under four ... they are great because the bolt is attached to the back of the seat in the front row and we had to have two bolts installed in the backrow, also in the back of the seat so there are no straps going across the car. They are tucked away neatly.

We could comfortably fit three seats across when we had just three. We also kept the back row of seats folded up because we didn't need them and could fit so much in the car. With the fourth, we had to move two seats into the back so that we could move the seat to get the kids into the back of the car. We currently use a capsule, one S&S Meridian AHR and two Maxi Riders AHR. The two Maxi Riders are in the back and the capsule is in the centre of the first row of back seats. With the handle it is just a bit too wide to open the seat entirely but it will push forward far enough that we can still get into the back (the whole front row of seats can move right forward so that you can reach them from the front seat which we have also done. The car seats are too wide to fit in any other way.

Once DS2 moves out of the capsule, we will get DD1 a S & S Hi Rider as they are much narrower carseats. That will go in the middle of the first row of back seats and the Meridian will stay in the front row for DS2. DD2 and DS1 will be in the Maxi Riders on the back seat.

We can fit a double pram in the boot easily and there is lots of under floor storage space where we keep a picnic rug, a towel for each of the kids, raincoats, their folding chairs, some sandpit toys etc. You wouldn't even know they were there.

I also love that the doors slide so if someone parks too close to me in the car park, I can get into the car no problems because they open sideways and not outwards.

So far I have no cons. We love our car and have had it for nearly two years. We bought it second hand when it was 2 years old - brand new they are over $50'000 because they are in high demand as government cars and hire cars but there are heaps available that are two years old and the price is significantly reduced. I wouldn't buy new because the depreciation in the first two years is pretty extreme. Also ours came with a couple of bumps and scratches which we have added to - having kids and getting kids and prams in and out of the car.

It is a great car with lots of storage and compartments, it is reliable and safe.

ETA: DH will be test driving a Mazda CX9 in the next couple weeks as his new work car so I will let you know what we think.

DH had a Mazda CX9 that could fit 2 car seats and a base in the second row. They are absolutely a dream to drive, I loved it. The third row is reasonably roomy too for a AWD. He now has a Prado which once again fits 2 seats and a base.

I drive a Landrover Discovery 3, that can fit a maxirider and a meridian but struggles with a base in the middle. Upon saying that the third row is so roomy and you could easily fit 2 car seats in the back - we often have 2 boosters in the back when taking some of the kids friends anywhere.

I have a Tarago & love it also.
We only have 3 anchors in the first row - have not had extra anchors fitted in the 3rd row like Just Me but that is an option.
Also love the sliding doors - kids cant throw open the doors in carparks & ding yours & others cars. Also good for tight squeezes.
I am a big fan -also feels & handles like driving a much smaller car.
    Good luck deciding.

We had an outlander that we could squeeze three seats into. But it was tight and uncomfortable.
We've just upgraded to a Pajero. I know not everyone's into 4WDs, but we live in the centre of the earth lol so it's kinda a necessity. Especially if we want to see DH who live in a remote community. We also have two anchor bolts in the third row, so could essentially hold 5 car seats....dunno where you'd put all the stuff that goes with them (the kids) though.

The car dealers kept trying to talk me into a prado, but if you do your research their back seats are narrower than my outlander was. For all my research we had to be looking at the big 4WDs (Landcruisers, Patrols etc), or otherwise an AWD that was large like a Kluger.

NRMA have a great site that gives you the exact dimensions of backseats. Not sure if I can post a link though.

    She's sneaky Feeb, isn't she??

Heaven we've got a Hyundai Santa Fe and we'll have two maxi riders and a meridian in it. Other options for 3 are a commodore or other station wagon... Or yeah a big 4WD like mine.

We have a Chrysler Grand Voyager with 3 carseats. 2 Maxi Rider AHR's in the back row and a SnS platinum in the middle row on a captains chair. DD1 sits in the rear row and DS1 sits in the other captains chair in the middle row.

Sent from my iPhone, so I apologise if it makes no sense.

Just want to add if you do decide to get a car based on 3 kids not 4, we really loved our Kluger and would still have it if we werent planning on expanding! I cried when we sold it

Kim, what seats did you have in your Outlander? We have an 07 Outlander which is apparently a bit larger inside than the previous model was... If we have another, we'll change Oskar's current Maxi Rider for the Hi-Liner, Elijah will stay in the Meridian and the bub would go into the Safety 1st capsule... which is actually the only 5 star rated one according the C.R.E.P crash tests. DH checks all these things lol... but some seats are only scoring 1 star!! They were seats I'd have just thought would be amongst the safest, so was shocked Anyway, those 3 seats should squeeze in our Outlander from measuring anyway.. as the capsule and Hi-Liner are both only 45cm wide.

Feebs... friends of ours are due to have bubby number 3 in November and they traded their Rav 4 for the Captiva and apparently can fit 3 across the back... can't think what seats though? I think Maxi, Meridian and capsule?

i have a honda mdx and love it! Its hard to find one but they are out they- they are a 7 seater!
also know in the US market as the Acura.
Very similar fit out to the Kluger Grande- leather heated seats, DVD player, safety features etc
it fits 3 car seats in the back and also has clips for car seats on attach to the roof in the very back seats as well. so you can fit 5 car seats in the car!
    the boot is also huge.
Today i had the very back seats down and had the 3 kids in the back and in the boot i had 2 large bikes, a big pram, and all the shopping!!
    definately worth a look at!!!
