We've hired a Cruze for our upcoming holiday, we will have a car seat for each of the kids. Wondering if there will be enough room for a passenger in between the car seats?
We have a commodore omega and there is plenty of room for a passenger in between but I think the Cruze is more compact?
We do, with two carseats in the back..... Is your extra passenger tiny? It would be very, very squeezy and to be honest, I don't think we would even try but I guess it depends on how wide your kids car seats are.....mmmmm, thinking my answer is no, and hubby just agreed.
My mum squeezes in between our two seats in our Corolla it isn't great but she copes but in wouldn't ask her to do it for more than 90 mins. Also depends a bit on the seats I think. DD has one can't think n of name but was top rated when bought it ezycombo perhaps but I wish had thought more as is a pain in the neck in the corolla as the wings round the g head shoulders are massive and really impede on middle seat. Hire car seats have always seemed narrower.
I emailed the car hire company to see what they think, hopefully they'll sort me out with an upgrade if necessary
We have the babylove ezy combo for DS WYSIWYG, I love the safety rating but I agree re the wings around the head.
The longest drive we'll take is about 30 mins - from Gold Coast to the theme parks and from the airport to central gold coast. We were originally thinking of going to Australia Zoo (2hrs) but with our other plans over the 7 days I dont think we'll have time now anyway, so mostly short rides.
Mum is very slight - only a size 8-10 and she's also 5 foot nothing so there isn't much of her
We have hired a Cruze before, but we only had one car seat then and no passengers, I remember the leg room being minimal, but didn't think the seat was much less wide than our car, but it was 2 years ago so my memory may be poor
You probably also need to think about her getting in and out of the seat, doing up her belt etc etc. half an hour is certainly do-able packed in like a sardine ( I often do it in our other car which is a Subaru outback), but the doing up seatbelt and so on can be a real pain. That's if she is in the middle- can you put the car seats in the middle and side? Probably not ideal in terms of safety, but may be worth considering.
I would personally upgrade if I could afford it.
We have a holden cruze and 2 car seats in the back (spare one for DS's cousin) and mum fits OK on the side. I don't know how she would go in between the seats, we just have them side by side...have a fantastic holiday hun!! xx
Well someone put me onto Apex car rentals and I can hire a Mistubishi 4WD Outlander SUV for $30 more - so have changed the booking, this way we dont have to worry about space and its cheaper than the other rental places. (they dont charge for car seat hire so it came out a much better price)
Tragedy averted, thanks for your input. I know Mum wouldn't mind but want her to be comfortable... (and we have to fit a pram and portacot in the boot too)
