Short answer, yes you can![]()
Hi,
I am very fortunate I receive 14 weeks paid maternity leave from my employer. This will begin before I have my baby as planning on leaving around 35 weeks pregnant.
I have worked out it is better for me to receive (at least a bit of it) the Government Paid Parental Leave in this financial year (not the next as I will be eligible for more FTA&B).
So can I get both paid at the same time? I realise the PPL only begins AFTER the birth of bubs, but to have them overlapping for a month or 2 would be good.

Yup. It's worth taking into consideration that it takes around 4 weeks from lodgement of paperwork or presentation of birth certificate to money in your account. You can do the application in your last trimester and then just take the birth cert into centrelink once baby is born. However it can also take a little while for the birth certificate to get organised so keep this in mind.
yes - but check out whether you might actually be better off by claiming the baby bonus (tax free) instead of a partial PPL period.
