If you jump on the rate estimator on the c'link website it will tell you. It all depends on your income, how much rent you pay and how many children you have etc.

yep jump on the CL site, you can put in all different variables and it will be able to help you figure out a combination that works for you. GL moving out![]()

im married and pay $300 and get a lousy $127
What really ****es me off about centerlink is how they decide their benefits! Rent is so pricey that a hundred or so a fortnight doesn't stretch that far. What gets up my goat even more is if you have a mortage to repy they don't give a toss! You get zip towards it! I hope you get some decent rent ass especially since you are a single mum!
well im married and not entitled to PP, but i get FTB part A and B and i get about $120 a fortnight rent assistance, we are currently paying $270 a week in rent.....hope this helps, but i think its better to call centrelink, or go on their website![]()
Not looking to good then is it!! I thort it was more then thatThe minimum rent around here in a good area is 300, thats 600 a FN which is more then half of my payment
Either no car or im gonna be stuck here forever
I dont ever seem to get a break! I dont wanna go to work, I wanna stay home with my girl and raise her but how the hell am I sposed to live!! grrrr I know were lucky to get anything at all from the gov, but geezzzz![]()
Centrelink don't decide how much to pay you, the Government of the day do. Centrelink pensions and benefits are there to support people who have no other means of support. I agree that housing is not affordable in Australia.
Jennie, I hope you're able to find something affordable. If you do decide to start working and need to use childcare, make sure you apply for JET child care fee assistance - you will pay very little in child care fees for the first 6 months of working.
yeah it sucks - but to put it in perspective - you are paying off an asset - if you decide to, you can sell that asset and may get some money back (esp with the way the economy is - housing is getting more expensive by the day - so if you buy now, five years from now, you are likely to sell with a profit) - if you are paying rent, you are at the whim of someone else, paying off their mortgage for them. if you have to up and move (which can happen at any time - with no choice in the matter), you get nothing when you leave. nothing at all. in fact, you are only in semi-stable housing, and you lose a crap load when you have to move - it's by no means a cheap exercise!
there is not enough government subsidised housing by far for those living on the poverty line - in some areas, the wait for public (income tested) housing is up to 15 years. in the interim, there is assistance for those on the lowest end of the income scale to subsidise the cost of private rentals
I think the gov sees people with a mortgage as not needing assistance. A bank will only approve you for the amount of money you can pay back.
What gets on my goat more (because I just think it's so damn stupid yet hilarious at the same time) is we get $1 a fortnight from centrelink, which is fine we don't need it and a payment is better for someone that does, but what dumbarse thinks $1 a fortnight is actually helpful?
Renting is so hard. I was only looking on the paper the other day and a two bedroom unit was going for 300 and something. Ridiculous.![]()
