Starting work soon... When do you tell Centerlink

So I'm starting work on the 30th of Jan YAYAYAY, I'm so very excited!

I know I need to tell centerlink, but I am wondering when would be the best time, I don't want to tell them too soon, because I can not afford any of my pays to be cut before I start work, or I'd head down debtville very fast... I won't be getting paid until the 8th of Feb from work...

So when should I tell them, from the 8th of Feb? Or before I start? Ekkkkkkk

My understanding is you have to tell them as soon as you start working.... but having said that, if you need to do job searching between now and then you may want to tell them sooner and see if you have to continue looking for work or not...

I guess there are pros and cons both ways - but my understanding is that they don't cut your payments off before you start work - I've had unemployment benefits 3 times and each time I continued to be paid until I started working. I don't remembr when I told them though. I think it was the week I started.

As long as you tell them ASAP after you start you should be okay though. I'm pretty sure they will cut it off as per the date you start working. Depending on when you get paid at the job, you may have a little gap - hopefully not too long for you!

BTW - congrats well done and good luck!!

Depends what payment you are on. If just ftb, Update your estimate ASAP if necessary. If on parenting, 2 days before your first payment after starting job is latest to stop you getting an overpayment. generally, if in income support, you are best to notify before you start so you can be updated correctly for reporting etc

its for both BG FTB and PPS...

I did the online estimater thingy, and according to that my FTB won't change (for this financial year) is that correct... I did one of my yearly income now, and one of what it should be after i start work...

Ftb won't change while you remain on pps

Call clink between the date you get your last pre employment payment of pps, and the day work starts so you can be set up to report each fortnight. If you will have a set wage it can be put in place early with start date of whenever you are due to start so it won't impact you early
