From what they are saying on sky news on Foxtel it will be given to families who get Part A - $1000 per each eligible child from 8th December.
I hope you don't have to be receiving the full amount of Part A to get it.
I only get a tiny amount of Part A and we are by no means high income earners.
No Sush, not everyone gets FTB. I don't get any. Bummer, $2000 would be a lovely surprise!
a lot of payments (including the lower medicare safety net threshold) are dependent on you receiving SOME FTBA, none are based on full FTBA at all
I would imagine that as long as you get a payment, you should get it. They didn't mention a cut off point....:

Now I've always felt lucky to be self-sufficient, and have opportunities to earn my keep. But it's times like these, I wonder why I bother to work so hard. I have reverted to full-time work recently because finances were getting tight, and on the back of that, I just found out my childcare fees are going up, effectively eating up my 'extra' pay. We live in a small 3 bedroom house, drive one car, live frugally, so it's not like we're living the high life.
Yet we are always just on the 'wrong' side of all these thresholds. I calculated recently that if I stayed in a lower paying job, the govt assistance I would have received would have made up for the lesser pay in the long run. So why try to get ahead? There is such a disincentive for women to work hard and earn more sometimes.
Now don't get me wrong, I really am happy NOT to depend on the govt if I don't have to, but it seems like the harder I work, the more my circumstances and finances actually DON'T seem to change, and I'm not better off.

Sushee: I can understand you feeling that way.. I am lucky i have a low mortgage and I am able to stay home and not need to work as child care fees would wipe out anythng I would earn anyways..
I know this money would be great for us but then I wonder why are they doing it? Are they slowly getting rid of the FTB A ..

I planned well for my time off work (using LSL, A/L & M/L) and because of it we won't earn much less than when I'm at work even though I'm off work for 8 months. Because of this we get almost nothing from the government even though our combined income is well below $100,000.
I will however by the sounds of it be eligible for this one off payment.
Just wish I could get the First Home Buyers Grant for building. $21,000!!!!!!!!
There was no such grant when I bought my first home. I am way worse off financially than I was back then (paying triple the mortgage that I had then, for a much smaller house thanks to divorce) yet I got nothing when I bought a couple of years ago and would still get nothing if we tried to upgrade to a more family friendly house.
Completely warranted rant Sushee. My mum just had the same rant when I was telling her on the phone ;) They are low income, my step dad is in his 60's, still works full time and just lost a ****load from his Super, mum is 59 and does contract work from home so they don't receive anything either, as they are not pensioners, not first home buyers, not carers and don't have any dependants living with them.
Personally I'd rather see my $1000 per child go to people like them.
lol me so confused but dont think anyone can help me there, as I have no idea if we are A or B but think we are B ( I am a SAHM, BHL is $120,000pa but we have 3 winkies ) so dont think we will get it would be nice if we did would help with the move....
But on the upside we havent brought a house yet so we might have to save save save before the july cut off and get ourselves one ;)...
well I wont receive anything but am happy :D to see my sister get some to help towards their holiday and my mum will get some for her foster child...

Leasha - i've honestly only read the same as what you've read on the news as i'm at home feeling crap from MS at the moment!! as far as i can gather though, it won't be for single parents. essentially, single parents PAYMENT, even though you get a pension card, isn't actually a pension as such. i would think they're leaning more towards aged, disability and potentially carer PAYMENT (not allowance) recipients - but i'm honestly not sure

ladies, it WILL be income based - same as FTB
FTBA is based on both parents income - and it is this income that will be used to measure whether you meet the criteria
FTBB is based on lower income earner and age of youngest child (provided primary income earner less than 150k)
it is being reported as paying $1000 per child in december - but it's not been added to any official websites, just the news ones, so i would suggest people wait until they spend it in their mind - just in case the government put more restrictions on it!
Just for those asking it is definitely $1000 per child. Just read it on the Forbes website and we just had it on a newsbreak here and the News said per child as well, but they said it will be means tested.

Ummm, so does anyone know if people who don't have a child in December, but who will have a child in Jan/Feb will get it, or does it sound like it's a one-off thing only for people who already have a child as of December?
We'll be eligible for some FTB A I think.

:hug: Sushee. I'm with you on this one. I've just been sitting here feeling the same way. With the cost of child care and getting no CCB anymore (and because CCTR comes so far down the track, I have to be able to afford the child care without it), $2000 would have made a huge difference to us. And if I didn't work so hard, there'd be less tax coming in for them to fund these things. Sigh.
