I get FTB tomorrow, so ours should be in the bank in the morning. Ours is going on bills, one in particular, a $700 electricity bill due to a faulty fridge grrrrr,

I'm disgusted that DH and I won't see a cent of the bonus even though we have 1/3 custody of his two boys! DH rang up centrelink about it thinking that the payment would be shared between the two parents, to unfortunately be told that the entire payment goes to the primary caregiver and he won't get any of it. When he asked what the logic behind that is, he was told "because the primary caregiver would know how best to share it with the other parent and spend it on the children" How many separated parents have such an amicable relationship that they will be totally "fair" with one another?...

What a load of crap. DH's ex wife is a selfish cow and although we pay a much higher amount of child support each fortnight than we have to, we still get asked to pay "halvies" for everything. She now has $2000 that she can sped on whatever she wants and we just get screwed over again.

If the bonus was designed to help pay for schooling etc... then I could understand it going to the primary caregiver. But from what I am reading and hearing on the news, the government simply wants people to sink it back into the economy and "buy up" for christmas. In which case, I definitely think it should have been shared between the caregivers.

Ok, I feel a little better after my rant.

KL - anyone with less than 35% care of their children is not entitled to FTB as they get a reduction in child support - in that case, they primary carer would get full entitlement. if you pay more child support than you have to, unfortunately that doesn' make any difference - it is your choice. nothing the goverment can do to legislate on individual cases. sucks i agree, but if each individual circ had to be taken into acount, it would be a logisitic nightmare

It's times like this especially that I wish out centrelink money was paid on the opposite fortnight to payday for my job. We're running on empty and only have about $20 to last us until Wednesday when we get out normal payment and probably the bonus as well.

daniellabella - if you're constantly finding it a struggle getting all your money on th same week, you can change FTB pay day - essentially what they will do is change it across - one week you'll be short paid (only 7 days instead of 14) but after that, it will be regular 14 day payments...
