    Mucous or LH surge?

    Hi all,

My partner and I have only just successfully found a donor - we'll give it a go next cycle. The thing is, as we are reliant on a donor who lives in London, we don't have the luxury of attempting to conceive several times a cycle - we really have to nail it as close as possible, as it means a trip up to London and overnight stay in a hotel every time.

I've been charting my basal temp and mucous for a bit, but last cycle was the first time I tried testing for Lh surge. Now I'm really confused. From everything I've read, I expect both LH surge and egg white mucous to occur about the same time and signal the same thing, a fertile time followed by a climb in temp for ovulation.

The thing is, the mucous arrived thick and fast for a couple of days (together with fatigue and tearfulness and skin breakout, my usual ovulation-is-imminent signs). However, the LH surge didn't occur until 3-4 days afterwards, by which time I wasn't showing much mucous at all.

Teh donor says not to worry, the LH surge is what matters, but I've heard differently... I'm really confused, and scared of mistiming month after month for my one shot each cycle.

Does anyone know which sign I should listen to most - mucous or LH?

Fertile Mucus is ideal for the sperm to live and survive in so having it a few days before the LH surge makes sense. They do say it's ideal to have the sperm waiting in the mucus before the egg is released, though they still recommend you dtd on O day. Though in your situation, I would go for the LH surge, which normally occurs 12-36 hours before O.

    HTH somewhat
