Confused about starting kinder in QLD?

    Hi all,

I know I have asked a question similar to this before but I cant find it now.

Anyway. I just sent off an application to add DS to the waiting list for a kindy for next year, but I wanted to check he shouldnt be starting earlier. I think Ive read some states start children mid year and others start at the begining, is that right?

He will turn 4 on July 1st. And we live in QLD.

I cant figure it out from anything Ive read. The kindy website says they have 3.5 to 4.5 year old age groups. Which is why Im confused. Should he have started at the start of this year or mid year when he turns 4, or start next year when he is 4.5?

If I have this wrong, is this going to stuff us up for school too?

Also I read on the C&K website that there is a HCC subsidy "to offset full kindergaten fees". What does that mean? Does that mean they cover some or all or the cost? From what it says on the site for the amount it is subsidized per year ($2698 per year), based on the fees from another C&K (as the one we would be attending is not yet open), it sounds like it covers all of it making it "free" for me.

I hope that makes sense. My brain hurts.

Children need to turn 5 by June 30 to start Prep with the year before being Kindy means 4 by June 30 so next year is the right year for your DS (Eligiblity and access). The HCC should make it free or virtually free - at our C&K we pay $1.03 a day so less than $100 for the year.

I assume you're in QLD Jellyfish?
That is exactly the very simple answer I needed. Thank you.
