Just wondering if anyone knows of any 'may contain' trace free foods (baking goods, snacks etc) that will help with sticking to daycare's new policy of no egg or nut, or traces.
I have found that Nestle Cocoa powder is trace free (from nuts), anyone know of any others?
Or any suggestions on snack food apart from sandwiches, fruit and veg?
When boys went to OCC and I had to supply food they took a sandwich (vegimite, cheese, cheese spread, ham etc) a yougurt, fruit (bannanna, apple, strawberries), rice crackers, cheese, squeezy fruit puree, carrot sticks, hommus etc.
Just be aware hummus contains sesame which is considered a tree nut. The only reason I know that is ds1 has eczema flare ups with sesame and I had to investigate that.
It's impossible to have a completely nut and egg free centre. Most foods will say they contain traces to cover the company incase a child with an allergy has a reaction. I agree with not bringing in foods with nuts etc listed in ingredients but I think they are going too far.
I'd encourage you to go back to the director and encourage them to better research other ways of reducing the risk to the children who are allergic or who have anaphylaxis.
