she thinks that he will get more help being in somewhere like a state system where they have the resources to aid with speech and development.and then repeat prep in a private school if he gets a place (he is on wait list so just a waiting game atm). however im worried he will just get lost in the public system, especially if he has an inexperienced teacher that just labels him naughty rather then immature etc..

If he does end up needing an aide he will be MUCH better supported in the public system. I have just learnt this the hard way. In any case I'd be jumping on the therapist path as soon as you can. If he is having trouble finding the right words they will be able to pick up why and help him through and pave the way for a good school experience.
