I'd start by loading both your hair up with conditioner and then head to the chemist to see what they recommend.
Nothing worse than nits!
Now that i have got your attention and im really sorry if now your scratching. My two boys came home from childcare about 4 weeks ago with nits.
I shaved their heads just so i was rid of them and their eggs.
This morning i was putting up my 18 month old daughters hair and i found one in her hair and eggs too. I then started itching my hair so i decided to wet it and run a fine tooth comb through it, only to find that i had one in my hair too!!!
Please help....whats safe for me to use on myself while im pregnant and also what can i use on my little girl? any ideas PLEASE!!!!!!![]()

I can highly recommend the Robicomb which electrocutes the little buggers. There are no nasty chemicals, and you don't need to leave muck on a childs hair and hope it doesn't rub off all over your house. It is also strangely satisfying to do LOL. It doesn't kill the eggs, but apparently vinegar does loosen them to then comb out a bit easier with a fine tooth comb. You can also just use the Robicomb every day for 2 weeks.
HTH![]()
Just don't touch it on your ears!![]()
If you have a hair straightener then that will fry the little blighters! Just make sure you go from scalp to ends and get all of teh hair straightened.
Thanks ladies. I'll try the heat thing first. I did go to the chemist and asked whats safe, she gave me a natural lotion but on the back it says not safe for infants under 4 ...even though i asked and says nothing about if i can use it safely. I don't think ill use it. What should i wash my sheets and my daughters sheets in?
I have both straightner and blowdryer.
Where can i also buy a robicomb from trish?
I think you should be able to get it at most Chemists - maybe try Priceline? As for washing sheets, I didn't do anything special and we are nit freeApparently they only live for a day or two off your head.
Just hang your sheets out in the sunOr put in the dryer if you have one.
Just use conditioner and this comb u can buy from the chemist call "nit free", costs about $15 but worth it.
Do your hair and your daughters with these and do both ur hair several days in a row, by about day 3 u should have got most of them, then leave it a few days and do it again.
This way u dont have to expose either of u to chemicals.
Wash/change pillowcases and sheets each time u have done ur hair.
Thankyou to all you lovely ladies for your support. xx
Don't forget to clean your hair brush too! and your partner may need to be checked out as well. It is just so common, they are a plague, and this wont be the first time babe!
Tea tree oil is supposed to be good, so maybe a small amount in your conditioner as well whilst combing. It is natural and they hate it too. Apparently "wild child" is supposed to be pesticide free, but I haven't used it personally I only spoke with my friend about it.
Good luck hun, you are definitely not alone on this one![]()
DS1 has nits, found them tonight. Some facts:
- they only live for 6 hours max, off the human scalp.
- You only need to wash (or tubmle dry) the pillowcase
- there are a few essential oil based products on the market that are safe for pg/bf/infants - the one I hav eis called quit nits. Theres also moove.
I wish Id found the products that work in 10 minutes rather than the 4 hours one though. Now I will need to keep him home from school and do it tomorrow as the treatment we have is 'leave in for 4 hours'
Will try the hair straightener too!
I havent read all responses so forgive me if im repeating.
I have been using olive oil and combing them out with a fine tooth comb. has worked for me but you should do it a few times i think, my mum says once a day for three days then a week afterwards again.
I straighten DD1's hair then use the quit nits product and spray her hair with the quit nits defense spray before kinder each day. We've been bit free for a while now thank goodness
