My DD2 has a strawberry on her forearm - it was not large and has faded quite a bit since birth. We were told it would get raised and then shrink, eventually disappearing.

hi hun, DD2 has a strawberry birthmark on the top of her head, its a purpley blue colour and ppl who dont know think i've done something god awful to her and bruised her!
when she was born it was quite raised but now its sunken and she has a dent in her head! hoping it'll fade soon, once her hair grows noone will be able to see it, but i really want the glares to stop!!
Poor old DS was born with 3 birthmarks, one on his forehead, one on his knee that covered his kneecap and one on his chest, half covering his nipple.
Interestingly, the one on the knee was the one they said would become a strawberry mark and it didn't, and the one on his chest never got a mention and it became quite a striking, raised strawberry mark about the size of a 10 cent piece.
The one on the knee is fading, contrary to predictions and I think it will vanish altogether. When he was born it was almost purple and is now a very pale pink. The one on his forehead has also faded from purple to pale pink, but his hair covers most of it so not really an issue.
The strawberry one on his nipple is the one I keep my eye on because I don't want it to be a cosmetic issue for him when he grows up. It has become a lighter red colour now, dark pink rather than purplish, and not as raised as it used to be.
The GP said that 90% of strawberry marks are gone by the age of 10 so at the moment time is the best thing - just to wait and see. Then I would look into laser treatment for him if it was still prominent and it was bothering him.
They don't know what causes them - technically it is "an abnormal cluster of blood vessels" and the body usually reabsorbs them as the child grows. However, the birthmark does grow along with the child - so the mark on DS' knee still covers the entirety of his knee now that he is 3 years old - it has grown with him.
I've been careful to not make it a big deal - it's just a pink mark on his skin, like a freckle. Does annoy me when people comment on it though.
Hi My DD has one behind one of her ears, near the lobe. It started off a lght pink and hardly noticeable when she was born but is now raised and veiney. Its about the size of a 2 cent piece. I think at least it isnt in a bad spot, I met a littlr girl the other day and she had one in the middle of her forhead... bummer.
Dd2 was born with no marks but after a few days a red mark came up on her shouderblade. The drs said it was a strawberry mark. It grew and raised up til it was the size of a 20 cent piece amd heart shaped. It is now just starti g to fade, coincidentally once i got her a teething necklace mmmm
She also has a red patch at the nape of her neck which they called a stork mark. It is quite large and gets darker if she is hot. Once she has hair hopefully it wont be seen anymore.
They funny thing is that dd1 wants a birthmark too cause fred has 2
