My youngest boy was diagnosed moderately to severely deaf at 8 months, and given hearing aids until he was 15 months when he had grommets inserted and a hearing test under GA revealed that his hearing was, in fact, fine once the severe glue ear was resolved.
Fast forward to now. He will be 3 in January and about a month ago one of his grommets fell out. Apparently the second grommet is no longer in place, but yet to be expelled from the ear. He is on a waiting list for grommets again (looking at Feb/March as a private patient in a public hospital) and is seeing his ENT surgeon again on Thursday.
Today we had his hearing tested and he is once more moderately deaf, looking at hearing aids possibly depending on how long until we can get the op done.
So that brings me to my question. I have heard that having adenoids removed can help with frequent, severe, glue ear in addition to grommets. I will of course speak to his surgeon on Thursday but I was wondering if anyone has experienced their child needing this done, and did it help? What questions should I be asking my son's surgeon?
