Cough medicine just doesn't work!

So I've read the studies that say cough medicine in children really isn't effective, and is possibly harmful, and I determined I wouldn't give DS any such medicine...until this cold. Poor little mite was up all night with a horrible chesty cough and was absolutely miserable. So I went into the chemist and was surprised to see how many medicines there were, and I thought, well, if it can help him to get a little sleep, I might give it a try. And I fell into that thinking "well, how could they sell it if it doesn't work?".

It doesn't work.

It just made DS irritable and hyper and didn't help his cough or runny nose one little bit!! No more cough medicine here!

Back to the vaporiser, honey etc!

Is it a real chesty cough, or is it a dryish cough? If its the latter, then it might be a form of bronchiolitis or asthma, and a doc may prescribe ventalin to help remove the much. HTH.
