Gastro (we think) in 12 month old... when to worry?
Hi there!
Looks as if DD has gastro ( and me now too). She's been throwing up every few hours since Thursday night.... her last incident was about 7am this morning. She was very happy yesterday in between chucks.... playing walking around etc. Today, she has been SUPER sleepy, only staying awake for 30min periods max. Just really not herself.
We've been giving her water constantly and also hydralite icypoles. She's also eaten a couple of dry weetbix and 2 peices of plain toast.
She's kept most of this food down.
I spose I'm starting to worry a little because it's been nearly 48 hours and there's been no improvement... she seems to be getting worse. I might add that DS who is nearly 3 has NEVER thrown up before apart from relux when he was a baby, and the same for DD until now.
Do I wait and see if she's sick again, and then think about taking her to see someone? Or because she hasn't been physically ill for around 9 hours now, she's probably on the mend and we should just ride it out.
I'd phone the Kids Kare help line. It is staffed with nurses and they will know what to do. If they think it is serious enough they will tell you to go to the hospital. I hate it when the kids get sick but at least we have somewhere to ring. Good luck
If you are able to keep her hydrated and she is holding some food I would tend to stay home with her for now and see what the next 12 hours hold for her.
It is great that she is taking the icypoles and water, meaning she is staying hydrated, and managed to hold down some dry food. Keep going as you are, stay away from Dairy or greasy, oily, heavy foods for another day or two before introducing them. It sounds like she might be passed the worst of it, and I really hope she is it is horrible
I would avoid taking her to an ER if she is going as she is, because she will just be exposed to more bugs.
Youa re doing a fabulous job, even moreso as you are going through it yourself, take care of yourself too xxoo
