Been researching this and the main message from scientists who have studied lice is "treat the head". So don't waste time washing bedding etc, they can't live there, only on a human head. Spend that effort on the affected head.

If you read the packages of most of the newer, natural treatments you will find the main ingredient is teatree oil. So just get some yourself. You can use conditioner to help with the combing, or olive oil. Also if you can leave the oil on for long enough (over 8 hours) they will suffocate and make sure treatment is repeated to catch any that may have hatched, but before they lay a new batch of eggs.
