My baby had a broken heart!

I have just re read this thread for the first time since the hospital stay. Wow- talk about bringing it all back, I feel like it happened yesterday! I just wanted to come on here and say THANK YOU so much to the BB world! You all have no idea how much your thoughts and support meant to me during the hardest time of my life. I will forever be grateful to a group of strangers for holding my hand when I needed it most.

I am typing this through tears, I can't believe all that my little boy has been through. Charlie is going to be eight months old next week. He is a happy, noisy, busy, beautiful baby boy who is meeting all his milestones on target! He continues to astound everyone. We had a visit to the drs yesterday when we were told he was "thriving". I can honestly say I never thought I would hear anyone say that about my boy. The best I had hoped for was that he was surviving. He is a daily miracle in our lives and his sister is a constant reminder that we can get through anything. For an 18 month old to go through all the disruptions that she went through and come out the other end not only happy and content but not holding any resentment at all is a lesson to us.

I can't say thank you enough to all you girls. You will never know how much your messages and thoughts meant to me. xxx

How beautiful. Thanks for the update. It's great to hear that your family has survived throughout this difficult time, and that you have all been there for each other. Hugs for you and your family, especially little Charlie.

I've uploaded a picture of Charlie. I've made an album. I assume you can see it on my profile? He's wearing a t shirt my mum had made for him. We've been calling him ironman since he got the mechanical valve so mum had a shirt made with the ironman heart on for his Christmas.

Just a quick update. We are back in hospital. This time the heart looks fine but he has a very sore, swollen , red ankle and they suspect a bone infection called osteomyelitis. He is in a lot of pain and they have him on IV antibiotics. He is having an MRI today to find out for sure. The other possibility is an infection in the joint rather than the bone which would be better. Septic arthritis = 5 days of IV antibiotics. Osteomyelitis = 6 weeks of IV antibiotics.

The cardiac team are obviously worried than an infection may spread to the blood and up to the heart. (He is at high risk of heart infections due to the scar tissue a d metal valve) do far the heart looks good. Just more waiting I guess. Scared about the MRI today. He has to be put under general anaesthetic for it.

I ****ing hate this place!!
