So DS has a mild fever of 37.6. He's been slightly whingier than usual today, has a slightly runny nose (has had for about a week). And he's been doing an odd sort of gagging thing today, every so often. Like he's swallowing down burps or something that are coming up. He had a little slightly milky vomit about 12pm and nothing since (he last spewed about a month ago - so not a frequent thing for us). He's off his food but has had a bit of yogurt and lots of boob.
I've given him some panadol for the temp and I guess I'm just wanting some opinions. Is this just a wait-and-see type thing as long as he seems reasonably content (which he does now the panadol's working - he's just slightly clingier than usual). Or should I be finding a GP appointment for tomorrow? And is the no real solids thing okay as long as he's taking boob and it doesn't go on for days and days?
At this point, I'd say it is a wait and see thing. His symptoms are all mild and fairly broad. It could be a number of things. And yes, no real solids is ok at the moment. If he is feeling nauseated (and it sounds that way), he won't be interested in food. But if you want to offer food, banana is a good one in these situations. Provides plenty of energy and is mild on the tummy.
Of course, if you feel more comfortable having him seen by your GP, there is no harm in making an appointment.
Thanks. I think I'm just after reassurance that my current plan of attack is an acceptable one and that I'm not being a bad parent by not rushing him to the doctor and forcing food down him that he doesn't want, just so he doesn't 'starve' on 'just milk' (he's not a fan of banana at the best of times). So thanks for that.
