rash around mouth and all over chin ... help?

This morning when we got DS up, we found a rash all over his chin, and a little around his nose ...

I haven't seen anything on his hands or feet ... but I just don't know!

I hope it's just teething, but I'm not convinced ...

could well be hand foot and mouth, are there any spots on legs and around groin/nappy area?

Does he dribble a lot? If he is teething then he could be dribbling more than normal and that can cause a rash like you describe. My kids all got it and even now DS still gets it if he is licking around his mouth a lot. They call it 'lick eczema'

I agree with this, my DD gets it sometimes too.

DS has had what Trill has described recently only he's not teething, but has a cold. I was obsessing checking for spots everywhere else, but nothing.
Is he eating/drinking?

Could he be having a contact reaction to baby wipes or something? DD got this really bad and after countless doc visits we realised it was from wiping her face and nose and it drying out her skin.

nothing different in terms of eating or drinking, or wipes or creams or anything ...

they're definately dots, and they're not anywhere else ...

still there, and not improving!

DS and DD both got them after citrus, strawberries and anything acidic. Do they look like pimples? I would keep an eye on him overnight and keep watch of palms and soles of feet, and the inside of his mouth for HFM, but could just be a local reaction to something hun xoxox

DS got little bumps once from kiwi fruit, but nothing else yet ...

Will continue to monitor the situation ...

It's looking worse today, and there are some little blistery dots on his hands ...

I had a meet-up with friends, and then one of the kids got HF&M a couple days later. A couple of the girls said get checked out cos you are more susceptible when you are pregnant.

What are the risks to pregnant women exposed to children with hand, foot, and mouth disease?
Because enteroviruses, including those that cause HFMD, are very common, pregnant women are frequently exposed to them, especially during summer and fall months. For all adults, including pregnant women, the risk of infection is higher among those who do not have antibodies from earlier exposures to these viruses and for those who are exposed to young children—the primary spreaders of enteroviruses.

Most enterovirus infections during pregnancy cause mild or no illness in the mother. Although the available information is limited, currently there is no clear evidence that maternal enterovirus infection causes adverse outcomes of pregnancy, such as abortion, stillbirth, or congenital defects. However, mothers infected shortly before delivery may pass the virus to the newborn. Babies born to mothers who have symptoms of enteroviral illness around the time of delivery are more likely to be infected. Most newborns infected with an enterovirus have mild illness, but, in rare cases, they may develop an overwhelming infection of many organs, including liver and heart, and die from the infection. The risk of this severe illness in newborns is higher during the first two weeks of life.

Strict adherence to generally recommended good hygiene practices by pregnant women (see the section “Can HFMD be prevented?” below) may help to decrease the risk of infection during pregnancy and around the time of delivery.

I think I had to have my immunity checked and good hand washing/hygiene.

Sounds like hfm, I had when it pg with dd2, it's unusual for adults to get it because we normally have immunity, was just my bad luck to get it. Just make sure you wash your hands after nappy changes as the blisters are internally too.

Poor darling - hopefully he will get it really mildly hun, mine hardly seemed to have anything wrong with them - as far as I remember, it should pose no threat to ziggy - I was a bit worried because the kids were around someone pg when they had it. Just check with your Dr when you go. xoxo

from the looks of things, as long as I steer clear of his drool, his blisters and his poo, and I wash my hands regularly etc, I should be ok.

drool and blisters will be hard to avoid, without withdrawing contact all together, but I'll implement some vigorous handwashing.

poo is fine - being anywhere near nappies makes me spew like Mt Vesuvius on Ipecac, so that's a no brainer for me.

poor DH has done ever single nappy change for about 4 weeks ... the man is a champ.
