When my DD got her 12 month needles i brought up her belly button again. IMO it hasnt closed at all. Sometimes it sticks all the way out and when i push it back in im pushing stuff back in, she doesn't seem bothered by it but i am.
The GP i saw wasn't who i usually see but he said if its going to close it will do so in the first 12 months which is not what i have been told by numerous doctors but hers most certainly hasn't changed since she was born. He said it won't hurt her she may just get teased because it pokes out so much and my mum said she had one and she had surgery because she was too embarassed to show her belly and kids teased her.
I have been given a referral to see the senior pediatric (sp?) surgeon here in canberra basically if he thinks she needs surgery she will have it. If its up to me to decide i'm not sure what i will do, i know its not hurting her but on the other hand i don't want her to be different from other kids.
I'm not the only person to notice, or DP we have had friends and family point out how funny her belly button is. She plays with it constantly
